wordpress suitable for a business site ?

hi

i need little help deciding whats best and prof. look solution.
i have a friend who is a childcare provider and his website was done all in html (like about me,home,fees,policies,etc..)
but he is interest in using wordpress to redesign the site but the problem is we dunno if it will still look prof. and business relates ?

he is not interest that much in bloging but he likes the wordpress easy posts so he can just update the info on site easily as now he have to go in html editor to add info, although the info doesn't change often (only quaterly info change to add how many free slot he have or if no slot at all)

plz can anyone guide me or advise me if is good pratice to go wordpress or just leave it as in html plz?

thx in advance

Years ago I changed over all of my sites to WordPress sites because they're so much easier to update. And for a business, a regularly updated site beats a fancy site that never changes.

There are so many templates available that it's easy to find one that looks professional. So many companies are using Wordpress or other blogging software to update even the biggest blogs these days.

I say yes wordpress is great for a business site just well as a personal site. I have seen some websites built using wordpress that are awesome looking and didn't realize it was WP until I took a second look. I think WP is an easy first step toward a website too depending on your experience level.

Although I prefer Joomla! for my sites, I do use Wordpress for some sites.

Wordpress over the last couple of years has changed, improved and added so many features it really isn't just blogging software anymore.

It should promoted as a CMS package more. Having said that, using WP or any other blogging software needs to still use business like layouts when used for business.
Most importantly lose the "Scroll down 20 pages look" . That is great for BLOGS, looks crap for business. Pagination is the key.

Also Self Host. Nothing blows business credibility than a free hosted WP blog.

There is Millions of Themes, widgets, plug-ins, Hacks available for WP . Go For it.

For business look aspiration: For WP business looks check out: http://welovewp.com/category/corporate-gallery i have spend a lot of time on this site and am in awe at what people can do with WP. I will admit though Joomla is pretty good too though.

Gotta love the way its in "BETA".

The UK gov are "hip" because they use Wordpress, flickr, YouTube and Twitter

[On a more serious note]

Yes, wordpress is fine for businesses. Loads of huge companies use it. Ebay, NYTimes, BBC, CNN, Yahoo, Sony, etc

Take a look for yourself: http://wordpress.com/notable-users/

wordpress is suitable for a business site because it's stable, secured and as long as you can keep up with the free updates, then go ahead.

For what he's trying to do I would say no. Go with a CMS such as joomla or drupal. Plus with wordpress he would be updating more than posting new info.

Wordpress is extremely flexible and a theme can definitely be made for it, but it might not be the ideal system for a business website. You might want to look into a custom PHP site, or (as a last resort, I really dislike CMS) Joomla/Drupal

According to my personal recommendation, static sites are good for business sites.

I think Joomla would be far too complex for this project, especially if you have no knowledge of working with cms.

Wordpress is very easy to install and to update content.

How professional the website looks is all about the design, not the cms.

^ Agreed. Stay well clear of Joomla for this sort of thing.

My suggestion: Either WordPress or a static site.

If your host has Cpanel with Fantatisco, such as Hostgator, then Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal, and lots of other programs can be installed with the click of a mouse. So the installation should not be a factor. Personally I would prefer Drupal to Wordpress for a business site. At the same time they are both super easy to update content and offer many free themes and modules. You really can't go wrong either way. It comes down to personal preference unless you are looking for a specific module that one has and the other does not.

Joomla! is easy to add/edit/modify content
It is as easy as Wordpress, if not easier.
I wonder how many people that continually say Joomla! is hard to use , but wordpress is easy have ever actually used joomla!. Joomla content can be added very easily. It is as easy as adding a post to WP.

I teach Joomla! to absolute beginners in only a couple hours. Both wordpress and Joomla! would be suitable.
