Got my blog up and running, need some help

I just started my blog:

Shooting the $hit

I have a few posts, just to get going. I added some adsense, put up an RSS feed and changed the theme.

What am i supposed to do with those advertisement boxes on the bottom? Is the RSS feed in the right spot? I would just like some pointers on making this site cool and user friendly, I want to make people come back; for a reason other than my superb blogs!

Thanks.

you might want to add the usual blog widgets... join mybloglog, blogcatalog, entrecard, technorati, etc... just don't over load with too many widgets! if you're planning on getting lots of rss subscribers then you should join feedburner too.

Can someone explain to me the correlation between widgets and RSS feeds. I dont see how I am suppose to go about adding different feeds from different places. How does this bring me traffic? Where do i put the widgets and how do I use them effecitvely. Can someone customize my blog for some $$$?

there is no direct correlation, unless it's an rss widget. think of widgets as just applications you can add on. they could be a donate button, poll, tell the weather, visitor tracker, etc.

rss = really simple syndication. think of it as a way of showing your posts on someone else's website, feed reader, etc.

I'd like to address the one thing most people overlook - the content! It's nicely written, you've got a newsy but opinionated style and it's easy to read so bravo! But when it comes to monetizing, it's tougher to do this with an "everything" blog as opposed to one with a subject. Not saying you should make a change because I like your style, just be aware that it can be harder to convert.

But then again, rereading your original post, I'm not sure you're interested in making money off of it (I'm sure you wouldn't mind if it happened, though.)

Thanks alot DDC_Cyn. + red added. I personally love writing these blogs and I feel that I put a good amount of effort into them. I just wish I could get more traffic and have more repeat visitors. I put up some ads but those arent going to pay the bills. I see what your saying about sticking to one subject but then I wouldnt be able to update daily, also there isnt really one subject I know alot of: maybe be cars, LLLL.com/net, school, thats about it. How do i get those visitors, how long does it take? I have subscribed to feedburner, technorati and all the others but after about a month I am seeing 200 uniques every 2 weeks, so 400 UV a month...is that good?

That's pretty good. Basically, all you can do is hook them in with your words. You're writing a blog for entertainment -- meaning people come to enjoy what you wrote as opposed to "I'm looking for a recipe for pea soup" kind of thing.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/website-development/496016-got-my-blog-up-running-need.html

That's the hardest and the most rewarding kind of blog to write. People will come back because of you. Open up on the blog, be yourself, let people get to know you. Ask questions, put up a poll. It takes time to build a readership. Believe me, I write a TV blog for fun and it's a tricky beast.

You have to love what you're doing and keep doing it. That's all you can do.

Thanks for the kind words DDC and Doc. So I guess there isnt alot I can do, just keep on writing and try to acquire a dedicated reader presence. How would you rate my blog thus far?

Also the title: I thought it fit the blog perfectly, because Shooting the $hit is exactly what im doing.

I just put a poll! Can you guys check it out and vote on it please...maybe some comments
