When you land on the homepage and click a link, in the status bar you can see where the link actually leads to, rather than "fantastic-domains.com/search" etc. What have I done wrong?
Apologies if this forum is only for the enlightened!
lose the site design QUICKLY
install joomla, drupal, wordpress, a little minisite , or even crude HTML Site ,anything !! something!!
That site has ZERO Credibilty Factor
I gave the rancid words to a friend who told me it would look rancid!
The worst thing is that it makes the portfolio look rancid. If I switch to wordpress, as you can see, I know little about web design. What would I lose by going to a ready made blog site? Can I still use a db?
Edit:
Is there a wordpress blog that advertises a portfolio well? I would like to see what I should aspire to...
Well, its a hard life to be a moron. The site was working fine until...
I tried to solve the original problem of this post and changed the name of the directory in the options bit to my domain name rather than pommyg.110mb....
Now its not letting me in ! i will have to restart the whole thing.
Thanks to your help and honest feedback, esp Mad Scientist, I think my site has massively improved. If you still think it rancid, then please let me know!
110mb is the name of the hosting company - my user name is pommyg, so my space there is under pommyg.110mb.com. I dont know how to arrange things so that the homepage is: www.dndoc.com and the sub folders follow from that. It must be straightforward but its a basic thing I dont know how to do.
i just tried to test out the mysql install on 110mb.com, but they wanted $9.95 to enable mysql. stuff that. might as well get proper hosting for $5-$10 a month.
re: dndoc.com, you've entered the domain in the account profile? i think if wordpress detects access from a domain which is different to the one set up in options -> general -> wordpress address / blog address it will redirect.
110mb have been ok so far, in my limited experience.
The setting are as follows:
WordPress address (URL):http://pommyg.110mb.com/wordpress
Blog address (URL): http://pommyg.110mb.com/wordpress
"Enter the address here if you want your blog homepage to be different from the directory you installed WordPress." follows this but after my experience in post 13, I darent change it!
What should I put in those boxes and where should I redirect dndoc.com?
I think I'm defeated. AFAIK, if you want WP to be running under dndoc.com, you'll have to put dndoc.com into those address settings, which you say locks you out
I would be worth knowing exactly what I should put in those boxes and where I should redirect dndoc to. This time I can copy and paste the whole site files before, so if I do get locked out , I should be able to wipe the site out and put the old files in...
dndoc.com should not be redirected anywhere, it should have its nameserver records set to NS1.110MB.COM and NS2.110MB.COM
if you get locked out, you should be able to access your database manager in the 110mb.com control panel, open the wordpress database, and change the values direcly in the wp_options table.
