Question on Development Tools

As a nontechnical newbie, what tools should I consider for developing my first basic web site using a web hosting service? Lunarpages gives you something called Coffee Cup, and I have read about phpwebsite, joomla, etc. Any suggestions for getting started would be appreciated.

it really depends on what you want. if it is a simple html site, none of the above are needed. just a plain text editor such as note pad really.

I want a simple, easy to use tool, preferrably integrated into the web hosting company. WYSIWYG is strongly preferred.

Also, anyone know of a site that lists web sites by development tool used to develop the site?

I would think the best way is to download a free template from somewhere like Ravoo or CSSWebLayouts and start editing the HTML in your favorite text editor.

Then, I would get FireFox and install FireBug (FireFox Plug-in).

Load up your page in firefox, press F12, click enable firebug, click inspect and start learning the wonders of CSS!
