What to charge

Hello,

I have a new free forum hosting site, which hosts 70 forums and gets 2000 - 3000 hits daily and growing every single day.

I was wondering what would you charge for a banner in place of the one on http://www.invisionplus.net/forums/?mforum=pss and every other hosted forum.

As i said it gets 2000-3000 hits daily and is growing.

Thanks

PS. Have a Hivemail licence? Need advertising? Wanna trade?

Hi chris_reilly,

Here's the way it works.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/website-development/28959-what-to-charge.html

First hits don't mean a thing to advertisers. (hits are just the number of graphics/objects that load when someone visits, or the graphics are displayed elsewhere linked from the page).

Quality advertisers are interested in what page surfer’s visit, how long they stay, and visitor demographics.

In other words are the people they want to see their adds seeing them, how many and for how long.
Prices are pretty standardized.

So your first goal is to gather those statistics, (so you can make some money now) and then determine who your targeted clients should be (honda motors, or whoever has an advertizing budget to make you happy) and develop your forums to target those advertizers.

It is 20 hour a day work.

Why don't you try google ads just for experiment, then once you know how much you earn through google, i am sure you would know how to charge!

Hmm, let me see now, simple arithmetic tells me that 2000-3000 comes out at 2500 on average, divided by SEVENTY forums, that works out at 36 hits per forum, and of course, how many of those hits are YOUR OWN !

I think you should wait a while before you start thinking in commercial terms here.

I can understand your apparent 'excitement' at the hits, but in advertising terms it's appealing to absolutely NOBODY.

What you would most probably be better off doing, is signing up for some good high-commission paying affiliate sites which are relevant to the topics of each of the different forums, and placing some of those kind of ads in your forums and see how they go.

You can sign up for affiliate programs with some of the major affiliate companies, which can give you access to hundred, even thousands of different products all from the one site. You could join a few of the majors like Commission Junction , Tradedoubler and Clickbank (click-bank has lots of good high commissions paying stuff). That would be a much better option for you, as trust me, you ARE NOT in the market for charging for adverts just yet.

If you don't know how affiliate programs work, and I'm assuming you don't because your question sounds rather naieve, although I mean this in a kind way, however, affiliate programs work basically by signing up with one of the aforementioned companies.

On their website they have hundreds, even thousand of different merchants. You get banners, text links etc., and you place them on your site with a unique identifier code. Every time someone clicks on a link or banner from your site and goes to one of the merchant sites, if they buy any of the products , you get a commission. Simple as that.

In the meantime, my apologies if I'm preaching to the converted, and good luck with your endeavours.

Here's a simple idea: Pick an amount you think people will pay and put it on the site. If nobody buys, its too high. If you sell out, then raise prices over time.

have 2 things. Free, but with ads. People can pay via paypal to take the ads off. Simple as that. Thats what some free web based games do. And have the google ads on the top/bottom of all the pages. Or have them choose. Popups or google ads. Theres many ways to do this

paypopup.com (good site you can pick if you want the money to be sent via snail mail or paypal)

I hope this helps if you need a paypal IPN i posted one on the code forum.
