where did all my traffic go?!

My site Ripnet-UK.com has experienced a dramatic and mysterious drop in traffic.

I picked it up from a drop at Snapnames a few months back. It had no alexa traffic rank, but tons of good backlinks and a PR of 4. When parking with a couple different services, it always showed between 150 and 200 uniques a day. I decided to develop it into a minisite with some of the general info that the old site had.

Since then, the traffic has decreased everyday - according to my Google Adsense stats and Google Analytics. About a week ago, when I first launched it, it was showing about 40 uniques, and has decreased every single day until the past 2 days and today show only a couple of uniques!

Much to my surprise, it now has an Alexa rank of 6,700,000, which it never had. It is still a PR 4 and still has great backlinks and was once a very popular site.

Can anyone help me figure this out?

Rep and NP to anybody who can help - thanks.

the lack of alexa traffic rank in the outset shouldve been a warning that traffic wasnt going to be great. having a rank now of 6,700,000 means nothing except that you are on the low end of traffic. it sounds like traffic was being redirected to your site for a few months, and now the main traffic going to your site is through backlinks. it's a shame to lose the 150 visits from a few months back, but they werent real visitors anyway so it isnt that big a loss.

the "tons of good backlinks" factor should keep you hovering at some level of uniques even without any promotion, but how are you going about promoting the site now?

your pr is likely to stay the same, as long as your site is related to the backlinks. your alexa rank is likely to increase, seeing as it cant really decrease any furthur. i have an alexa rank of about 1.5 mil right now with 1500+ monthly uniques of natural traffic.
