How many of you here run a proxy top site list? I am having a real hard time promoting mine, the only proxy listed is my own. I submitted it to a bunch of other proxy top site lists, and am having absolutely no success. What recommendations do you have? What are the best sources of traffic?
To get it started, I suggest something here such as an NP$ incentive to get your base running. As a proxy webmaster, I don't bother adding my proxies to lists with less than 100 members. You want to have a really high member base and this will automatically get you more members.
Promote it with things like featured members and create something different from the many hundreds lists out there. You'll need to set on something different [it could be the logo/design]. You should have an attractive 88x31 banner so other guests could click on it and so on. I run zunelist[dot]com and having a unique template and good 88x31 button helped.
Remember, these topsites, especially for proxies, will get a lot of traffic when they are established, and your server will have trouble monitoring stats, so just a heads up on what to expect.
You also need to add catergories, and maybe find a new template. My homepage has the biggest collection of Aardvark templates, so look around
Any other suggestions? I'm getting some members through my NP$ incentive thread (http://www.namepros.com/np-incentiv...xy-related.html), and the traffic is starting to pick up, but I'm not getting any submissions outside of NamePros. Do I just need to wait? Or what else can I do?
I have a blog topsite. All I did was advertise it on a bunch of blog forums, never paid a cent for advertisement.
Maybe you can advertise it on forums that have many proxy site owners. Perhaps a proxy forum, if there is such a site.
A member is useless to me if they do not add your button to their site. But if your site is new then get as many members as you can regardless if they add your button. Having a high member count attracts members.
One more thing... beware of the sohbet (You might not have a clue what I am talking about, but you soon will.)
I wouldn't dare ever attempt to advertise at the Proxy.org forums again, but that's a long story!
Yeah, most of my members have my code listed, except for 2 bad apples that I emailed today, but even if they don't still add it, I'll probably let them get away with it now, for the sake of having members.
I have image verification on, is there anything else important to know?
Some of them still manage to get through, and some add their sites manually. Once they get your code, they will put it in their site which gets tons of traffic sending a bunch of requests to button.php and your site will be using high amounts of your server's resources.
But I don't think you should be worry about it, I think the new version will come out before the turkish spammers cause you any problems.
