Question scrollable box in middle of page?

Hello all,

Nice forum, thanks! Been doing web design for only a few months now. Here's my question. I'm trying to design a page for a class of mine. I'd like it to be a scrollable box in the middle of the page, (where page content will be displayed) and have the links that cause that content to change all around the box. There are 20 people in my class, (20 links) around the box. Here's an example I drew...

I've had success using SSI in other pages, and figured I can do the same to keep a more uniform page, but I don't want to use frames. Is there a way to make this "box thingy" without using frames? It can't just be a text box, I need to be able to assign different backgrounds for different links. And the page content inside will have text and pictures. I know the little window would come out kind of small for comfortable surfing, that's ok, each person's link only has a small amount of text and a small picture......thanks for any ideas.

If you're looking for something like the news section of www.epasture.com or the content section www.telelearning.ca then you're talking about IFRAMES - do a google search and you'll find all the info you need.

Thanks

That's exactly what I want, thanks. I was worried about the backwards compatibility using frames, but I've read that iframes are a bit more forgiving. I'll give it a whirl......

I use iframes on a site that I made for our local museum. http://Museum.Wibaux.US Check out the "Wibaux Links" page or the "Museum News page. If you are worried about the SE spiders finding the iframe, make sure you have a site map that lists the content pages for the window content.

IFRAMES don't work in v4.0 browsers or before, but they are a lot more forgiving then actual FRAMES. I guess it just depends on who makes up your site's audience...
