Developing Ineedincome.com

I've thought about developing this name on and off over the last 4-6 months (although I've been pre occupied with other ventures).

My strategy would be to build one of the highest quality biz opportunity websites on the net. To go counter to 99% of every other site out there. Instead of slick sales copy and shady money making deals, I thought about using a very clear and clutter free design (i.e. something like Google's homepage).

The content would be filled with high quality affiliate and referral programs. No MLM. No stuffing envelope deals. Besides different programs I could offer high quality exclusive content that is actually truthful, honest and not a bunch of BS hype about making $10,000 a week in your pj's. My goal would be to shock potential vistors and they would say to themselves..."wow, this sure is different than any other site I've visted". If you could create a trustworthy and honest site in the eyes of potential visitors, I think that would eventually allow for great leveraging of my customer opt in list.

One of the cons is that people may not want to hear the truth. Is there a market for that? There's certainly a market for people looking to make extra money. But whether they want something glossy and slick or something more realistic is another question.

Another con could be the name itself. I don't believe generic domain names are very brandable in the long run.

Any opinions on developing it? What would you want for a biz opportunity site?

Well, I have a few opinions which I guess I may as well pass along... First things first, like you somewhat mentioned, the domain name looks very iffy. I think the porno site vs. search engine site analogy is perhaps the best one. With porno sites you have alot of names which all sound very much alike, and generally hold alot of crap. Plus we've all seen those crappy site names that all link to the same evil place and crowd search engines. (Same thing happens with the "make money at home" type sites.) Now, with search engine names the most popular ones all have original sounding names, such as google, yahoo, lycos, etc. and the ones with names like searchmore.com and whatnot tend to be less popular.

So, as far as your initial shock goes, I'd recomend perhaps some kind of an original name for it. (If I were you I might even use something along the lines of Caerus.com because it's symbolic and easily recognizable. (Greek God of Oppurtunity, fitting in a way.) Generally, one word names are best. The public seems to reflect better on them. Even hollywood directors prefer movies to have a one word title, a thing which most screenwriters note. Two words is ok, but generally not as good. When you go longer than that things start to get confusing and mistakes are easily made.

As far as people not wanting to hear the truth, consider the fact that most of the other sites show very few people talking about the system, and even then they're only the ones who made out. You could get around this by having a tag board of some sort, where anyone who's used it can comment. Albeit this could bite you if you provide a bad service or misrepresent yourself, but in the end it might make others more willing to take a chance on it.

This area is sometimes very appealing to kids more than anything. Some run entire websites off of the money they make through workable affiliate programs with places like Amazon.com and Bravenet.com You might want to consider them as a potential target market, though its much harder legally to deal with minors. Some places prefer not to do it at all, while others have contracts parents/guardians must sign and send in. (Useless in my opinion, considering the number of kids who forge their parents signatures.)

Here's another facet which you may or may not have considered. If you had some capital for advertising, you might want to try TV or Radio when initially starting up. Reason being people tend to believe things they hear in those sources more than they would the Internet, where more often than not things are scams. Also, I believe it was Yahoo(?) that first advertised during the Superbowl, and from that million dollars they grew into the monster they are today.

And now that I get down to the very end, I realize you may or may not be looking into this for self-profit. If not, some things I've rambled out may not be as viable to you as they would if you were turning this into a business of some sort, but in any case I wish you much luck with it however you decide and hope you'll email me when you have it up and running if you do proceed! (Who doesn't want to make 10 grand in their pj's? )

I agree the name is iffy. Short term it may work. Longer term, I would doub it.

Although some 3 letter domains are quite high on Alexa (yourfreedvds.com is at #5 in the shopping category). Thesmokinggun.com is another one. A very long name, like adultfriendfinder.com is in the top 100 overall. The right content can override a dubious name.

It does get type in traffic though, about 25-35 a month, and there's nothing on the site now, so some people are looking for it.

One word, under 10 letters is optimal. Most of the top sites on Alexa fit that description.

It'd be great to read real reviews on different money making programs (like Amazons customer reviews).

I got inspired by this idea because there is so much crap out there. I have yet to see a website that was all encompasing in offering legitimate and trustworthy business opportunities. Most sites have zero credibility.
