Well uploading any sort of songs to the internet and sharing them out without written permission from the bands and record labels who the song belongs to IS illegal. It doesn't matter if you buy it in the store, you're only allowed to copy it for personal use (say your CD got scratched and you need to put it onto a new one). Paying for a song and uploading it is breaching the copyright. Also, simply paying the bands is breaching the copyright, the bands have a deal with their record labels and it might actually be the case that the bands themselves don't even own the right to the songs once they are released; in some cases the record label will.
However, are coders to question whether what they are coding is for something ethically and morally wrong or not?
I guess that all depends on the coder you are. Having said that I suspect most people will not do it, reason being it doesn't look good on your CV / Portfolio. Say a client asks you for samples of your work and you post an illegal mp3 downloading site, he is probably going to think twice about going with you.

Yes, but I would leave the legality of the site up to him. It is his responsibility, and he has already stated that he will be using it for legal purposes.
The dude is after a favour and didn't even use any manners, call me old fashioned but if I am after some help off of anyone I always have the common courtesy to at least say please.
And calling people silly when he's after a favour is also not the best way to encourage help.

In some countries, it is NOT illegal to share and download songs. I really don't see why most of you really care, the guy's looking for a script not what's legal and what's not, I'm sure he knows what's legal and what isn't.
