Due to a snafu at our provider that we hope to get worked out soon, I am not able to assign any domains on our server at the moment. Not sure how long this state will last. It's a unix box without cPanel or WHM, just root access. It is an extremely capable server that I have free access to through a partner I do business with who rents it from the provider.
There are several domains on the server that are currently not being used, that were setup for future expansion. I want to use one of those domains as a temporary place, but if I submit that domain/directory to Google, etc, it will be a pain in the butt to change later on. I have an application that will require a lot of bandwidth, of which this server has, so I'd rather not have to buy new hosting if I can avoid it. Although if that is the only way, though I'm hoping this is temporary. So here's the question...
If I make a directory called
http://www.olddomain.com/newdomain/index.php
for example with olddomain.com being one we aren't using that is already setup. Is it possible then to set up some sort of forwarding at the domain host (or in .htaccess or httpd.conf) where the domain winds up being like this.
http://www.newdomain.com/index.php
and subsequent page loads will keep the newdomain.com in the address bar and for Google.
Not sure there is a solution that works, but I'm not all the way informed on these things, so I thought I'd ask you guys. 50NP$ for a workable solution.
