![]() | phpbb vs vb Hi, I am thinking of installing a small forum to a website. I currently use a vbforum on another site, but don't really want to pay for another lisence. I will only have 3-5 forums and don't need all the features vb has. My main concern is the security of phpbb. Does anyone know much about it's security and if it's improved lately? Thanks |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | use phpbb if you're willing and fast enough to download latest patches in the long run it will become expensive, use vbulletin if you want less of the headaches more of the membership. :IMHO: |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Vbulliten boards seem to attract more visitors, probably because they know the owner put some money into it, so the board will last more than a week. But PHPBB is nice for free, and probably good enough for someone who doesn't need all the features that VB provides

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | If you want free, go with SMF, but VB is worth the money

![]() ![]() | If free is a requirement, which it appears to be - I pick SMF over phpBB...phpBB is a lame duck...it is hardly being developed any more, it is hacked/exploited more than any other software...SMF is developing much faster, has more features out of the box, is easier to customize, and is more secure than phpBB

![]() ![]() | I have been using phpBB for sometime now and haven't had much of a problem. Since you will only have 3-5 forums and don't need all the features I guess phpbb will do the job for you.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | phpbb is total crap. Its abs featureless when compared to other board. Plus has several security problems. Go for SMF if you want free..

![]() ![]() ![]() | SMF doesn't have as many skins though, so ATM, I would stick with PHPBB, and then later switch (SMF has a converter)

![]() | phpBB .. if you really know your stuff in modding a board, then you can have something great. Example. With some time on your hand and some knowledge you can make a great forum. Buying a VB licence and putting a stock template (even bought) will not make your forum look more proffessional than a phpBB that's been modded and has an unique theme, no offence |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I don't personally see the need for a vBulletin as of yet. I'd just go with phpbb and maybe upgrade if it kicks off. No point in wasting money on something that's not 100% going to work IMO. Good luck |
