fixed width vs liquid layout

gah... take a look at http://www.eghetto.net/ , can't seem to get it to be liquid... if i set the widths to 100% and i shrink the window size a little the menu gets all messed up. Is there a way around this? I really like having the site work on screens bigger than 800x600

He wants the content of the menu and/or the logo to move along with the width of the page, I think...

not what I meant. if you look at it in a 800x600 monitor and up i'd like it to expand to fit the screen, eg. they have an 1024x768 screen so the site gets bigger. I could do that by setting the table borders to 100% instead of the set border of 780px but then if someone on a smaller monitor configuration comes along eg. mr. 640x480 the menu splits into two lines so you would see the words chat and ladder underneath eghetto.net and join. you guys understanding this? lol I know its really hard to understand what I'm saying by the way i write stuff out heh.

Then you just need to edit your menu so there aren't as many categories, I cant think of anything else you can do in that situation...

hmmm... maybe.. is it important to you if you had a bigger screen that a website made on 800x600 fits perfectly on your 1024x768?

I have never heard of a site expanding or shrinking to fit the size of the customers monitor or resolution.
If you find one I like to know.

He means the width of the table to fill the window without margins.

And I would try checking the inner table/cell sizes and see if they conflict (or even set the widths of the cells with % of the width of the table)

Why dont you just make the width smaller? I think that is what most people do. So instead of having your width ="780" now reduce to width="760" or less.

Then play with it. Try different monitors 15,17,19,21 blah blah and try different resolutions you were talking about and different browsers if you want.

Then it doesnt matter who comes along and it can fit into any screen.

100% on the outside table will obviously fill the 1024x768 screen because 100% is very big...actually to big and everything looks small with that resolution. So when a normal person visits your site as 800x600 the 100% table is going to expand the screen and bring up the width scroll bar at the bottom which is very annoying (actually doesnt expand). Unless of course you have a 21+ monitor which it will look fine on but everyone else is SOL.

When you design, Ideally, you want to design with 15 in monitors in mind. However, who is really using a 15 in monitor these days.

Set a table to 100% Then set a table inside that to 779 pixles wide. Do all your work inside the 779pixle wide table table.

heh it's easier designing for one size

should i just write up some quick code that checks the screen resolution and then takes you to the appropriate design? or is setting it at 800x600 fine?
