![]() | Starting an auction site Hi guys, In terms of developing a site from what i am hearing, is it hard to start an auction site where you have members, like that of ebay. I would like to start one. Doesn't have to be as complex as ebay, but i would like users to be able to list their particular items. Does this sort of site entail shelling out alot of money? Would like to get some advice for starting a site like this. Thanks Guys, regards WhiteLion

![]() | i agree it is tuff to get going but once you get going its fairly easy , i am starting an auction site in the near future , . before you do anything else check out your comp. ebay is a given but there are a few others out there . most people arent looking for cheap listing prices and final value fee . they are looking for the best place where they will know their item will be seen , security , and know that the buyers and sellers are serious they also want everything to be easy , they dont want to have to sign up with 10 different companys just to pay the auction bill . in all i have talked to about 20 online sellers/buyrers from various auction sites . i have learned alot on why they have decided to sell or buy on the auction site they do ... if you want to know more feel free to give me a pm or msg me on aim . would be more than happy to talk to ya about it . i dont feel like writing book here in the forum ????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/website-development/12671-starting-an-auction-site.html Good Luck |

![]() ![]() ![]() | I agree.. look at your competition. If you are targetting younger people you'll battle with Laundromatic.net which has over 30,000 members and free listings.. no fees whatsoever. There are also a few more. I have wanted to start an auction site but don't have the money for it.

![]() | You will have to niche VERY heavily to do this well & yes auction sites get expensive & very quickly. It is IMO the toughest website to develop & within my niche I've seen only 1 so far that was successful, the rest flopped royally. Take a close look at some of the success stories out there (there aren't many) & also the failures. Ebay has some huge guns and unless you can find a way to differentiate or improve, they are going to level you.
