This is a tutorial for will show you how to draw a realistic looking blackboard in Photoshop. It only takes a few minutes to create a classroom scene! No brushes or special shapes required, just using the rectangle and rounded rectangle shapes we shall create a blackboard!

Step 1
Open a new document in Photoshop, with the size and background as shown in the screenshot.

Step 2
Make a new layer and name it Layer 2. Draw a rectangle in the middle of the canvas. Now you need to fill it with a gradient. Choose the foreground color as #313131 and the background color as #454545. Now double-click on the image next to the layer name in the layer panel, as shown in the sreenshot. This will select the outline of the rectangle. Now while holding the shift key, apply a foreground-background gradient from top to bottom. Choose the gradient as shown in the screenshot.

Your canvas should now be looking like this:

Step 3
The next step is to add the border of the blackboard. You can choose a different color if you want to but i will be using #e2b723. Select the rounded rectangle tool. Add a new layer, below the Layer 2 (black gradient filled layer) and above the background layer. With a radius of 10px and [#e2b723] chosen as the foreground color, draw a rounded rectangle, just larger than the rectangle so that it appears as a border. See screenshot for better understanding.

Step 4
To add some more effects to the border. Select the outline of the border by clicking the icon next to the layer name in the layer panel and go to Select > Modify > Contract. Set the value to be 10px. You will see a dotted line inside the yellowish-orange rounded rectangle. From the toolbar, select the marquee tool and hit delete. This will clear the rest of the portion of the rounded rectangle and leave behind a smoothly curved border for the blackboard. (Note: while selecting the size of the contract modification and other related sizes, it might occur that your blackboard will not complete come underneath the border, so by using the transform tool, you can make it look like in the screenshot below).

Step 5
You can add some finishing touches to make the image look better. Click on the blackboard layer and go to Filters > Noise > Add Noise. Set the amount to 3.00 and check monochromatic with uniform distribution.

Step 6
Now to add some touches to the border. Double click the border layer and open Layer Styles. Check Inner Glow and apply the following settings. Blend mode: Normal. Opacity: 50%. Size: 5px. Color: #8c6d01.

I hope you liked the tutorial
