using mod_rewrite for Lighttpd ?

I have unmanaged Linux server where I use Lighttpd. I'm not a VSP expert, Just know to get things installed using Kloxo. One of the biggest problems I have is I have no idea how to get enabled mod_rewrite for Lighttpd.

I heard I have to add rules directly to lighttpd.conf or vhost configuration file Im but sure exactly where or what are the rules.

Could someone plz tell me steps ?

Why did you choose unmanaged VPS if you are not an expert in managing your own servers?

Try to contact your web hosting provider's support.

It's not for production level sites. Just for testing purpose. So I can learn.

The easy method will be using apache instead of lighttpd. But, apache uses more memory than lighttpd.

Note: I have no idea about anything Lighttpd-related and am only a Linux novice myself. That said, this is what I found searching for information on your subject:

http://forum.lighttpd.net/topic/24040

So you may need to recompile. Again, I can't claim any insight here, and that post is a bit old so it may be outdated. Why not ask around at the Lighttpd forum?

Agreed with using APACHE instead. Provides you better results, Apache is undoubtedly the best known process-based server. Just customize it while you will compile hopefully will give you best results then any other server.

Apache is good but that's for servers with better resources. Not good for VPS under 300MB RAM.

I'm using the servers to learn about Lighttpd. This is the only serious problem I have encountered.
