question regarding 500 error

ok so I have a domain which I have forwarded to a fixed ip running a webserver. Now everything is ok if the domain is browsed, you can browse into the index and read the files (there is no index.html etc) and enter the directories and read the files in there, but when a url inside a directory is hotlinked (using the domain not the ip) the server returns a 500 error.

any, but I solved it, the problem was with the url redirection at the registrar. I used a third party dns now and the problem is solved.

Nice to here. I thought that was on the web hosting company side. Have they explained why they used that redirect at all
