Help! Web Hosting Startup

I am looking for help and friends in a serious web hosting startup.

Plan - go the reseller way and build up reputation then go for VPS and finally dedicated server to manage business. Finally have my own server and network.

All these I want to achieve in a 5 - 8 year time line.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/web-hosting-discussion/630393-web-hosting-startup.html

So what I want is help.

Reseller Way

Whom to go with ? - Hostgator Diamond Plan is my choice - What u guys say ? (Money is not a constraint.)

Domain Reseller ship - GoDaddy / ENom / ResellerClub. ? - No idea in this field. - What u guys say ?

Payment Gateway - Paypal or CCAvenue - Which is better ? (I need debit card payments)

SSL - Whether to go for EV or not EV ?

And finally one last question -

Would I keep the domain and hosting business separate ? Or combine them in a single one stop shop ?

Any help will be very much appreciated. Thanks.

You can't go wrong with hostgator. They are one of the best overall web hosting company in the world. You may need to find more resellers to compare them with each other.

What sort of features are you looking for in your reseller package? Many resellers offer extra features/services - perhaps you should think about which of these interest you to help you decide which provider to go with

I think you should give us more information on your requirements and if there are any specific features you are looking for.

I'd recommend Enom to you

One stop shop for sure, it makes it easier on your customers

HostGator get quite good reviews, but certainly aren't the best host out there (contrary to what some are saying). Just thought I'd point that out. But yeah, they are a good host and you probably wouldn't have a bad experience with them.

eNom's reseller account seems quite popular. Can be integrated with WHMCS too.

PayPal for standard payments, perhaps authorize.net for CC payments

A standard SSL certificate can be fine to be honest.

Not many clients register their domain with the host nowadays (at least in my experience), but it's still worth offering domains for sale as part of your host, IMO.

Good luck in the hosting business

That is truth. And it is a pity. The customer should be sure he is administrator of the domain name

Yeah...this is a nice point as pointed out by tristanperry also. So that would suggest me to keep the domain and hosting separate. This would lead to some extra customer base maybe. And also the customer is assured totally that what ever happens I am never going to eat their domains.

And as tristanperry says, there are better than Hostgator. Any clues ?

Thanks again.

Also to be a complete one stop shop, what more items I need to hang in the store ?

Also another question. For start or forever - Is it absolutely necessary to offer a FREE hosting package ?

Any confident host would say something similar.

As for Hostgator, they're an experienced host. One thing you might not like about their reseller hosting is that the ability to oversell is disabled.

But they sure know how to keep their servers online:

Guys one more question - How is OpenSRS ? Their domain prices seem to be pretty high. Are they worth the price tag ?

I have never heard of them. But I think you can use search option on this forum to find the reviews if they exist.

Myself I went with the biggest registrar in the world so I could offer all their services as well. With multiple data bases in the US and Europe it gives my customers better web exposure. A lot of people think godaddy is the only game in town but there is lots of good hosts and resellers. Its just godaddy with a different name. I have tried several hosting companies. I now register my domains with my company of course. I like the fact that they are seen on the net in seconds and the c-panel is really user friendly. I see no advantage having the domain and hosting seperate. With total dns control and any feature you could ever want in one place is the best way for me.
