Non-profit discounts?

Hey all,

I'm involved in a scout troop (Boy Scouts of America) and we're searching for a new host for the troop site.

Though I personally don't run the site, the person who does is unhappy with the current support and software. It is my understanding we are unable to password protect complete directories, just individual files. While there's likely a way to resolve this, the company has not been helpful in solving it.

Does anyone know of any hosts that would give a discount to a non-profit organization such as a scout troop? We would also be looking for a host that is reliable (99.9+% uptime), great support, a great reputation, and one that won't close out on us too soon.

I am Not looking for advertisements, rather member opinions on if this is ever done and possibly third-party opinions on certain hosts.

If moderators feel this is better off in another section, feel free to move it.

It is interesting that you mention this. I have noticed a site on the internet a long time ago called Free Web Services for Nonprofits - Grassroots.org . It appears as though they accept donations from hosting and domain registration providers and give them to non profit organizations that need it. Might be worth looking into or learning more about. Another thing you could do is search google or post a new thread in this area Web Hosting Requests - NamePros.com . I am sure you would get many responces from small hosts wanting to help. You could also take a look at http://WebHostingTalk.com since they are geared more towards hosting and NamePros is geared more towards domaining. Between all of those resources, I am sure you will be able to find what you are looking for.

Actually a lot of web hosting service providers offer the discounts. Just send them a request and I assume some of them will agree to give more discounted price for as they can
