trouble with 1dollar-hosting.com

Hi,

I don't know if I am writing in a right place but if it is not, please forgive me.

Anyway, Yesterday (or 2 days ago), I got a notice of hosting service cancellation from them. So since I dont intend to have a service with them I don't think I have to pay anymore, they have cancelled it anyway.
But then the next morning I am surprised that I have to pay them 12 USD for 1 year while they have terminated their service to my hosting, so I quickly responded by claiming unauthorized payment to paypal. I wouldnt want to pay something that I don't receive...

Turns out to be that the reason I am being charged 12 USD is because even after they send me the notice I should have cancelled the subscription myself, the fact that they don't tell me for bad intention of course, who knows I can keep paying them 12 USD every year without having to provide me any service?

Well and then what happened is that 1dollar-hosting.com sent me another invoice (using email) of 50 USD because they need to waste their 40 minutes time with paypal investigation since they think forgetting to cancel the subscription is not their fault. I wonder what I should do. I have complained about this to them and paypal, no reply yet.

Dunno if I am at wrong here or what? Is this 50 USD charge legal? I am not familiar with this kind of situation.

solved with complete detail:
Have contacted paypal directly -call them directly using my phone(06/29/09) and they said it is not legal that fee for cooperating with PayPal investigation is charged towards me. It could have been faster if I asked them directly rather than talk to them directly. They always insists on the term that my account is suspended but not cancelled while my website is not running and not there anymore! I am not born from where my mother language is english, but I see only fact that my site is not there. You wake up and see your site not there anymore, one thing you could think is that they have cancelled your service, and of course you don't wanna pay for something while it is clear that you dont get anymore. But it's ok if you guys think I am in fault for that part- I should have learnt how to cancel PayPal subscription thru PayPal. I don't really complain a lot about this part.

But then they try to charge me fee for cooperating with PayPal investigation! Too bad for them, it is not legal action like I have stated above. You guys using 1dollar-hosting.com should also be careful especially when dealing with not using their service anymore in the future, better don't talk with them and keep using your PayPal to cancel subscription, getting your money back, etc including asking if you need to pay if you are being charged by them to cooperate with PayPal investigation

I won't be here attending to this thread or answering anything anymore since it is already solved.
Thanks for everyone helping/hearing/replying me(+rep for u all, sorry for 07/05/09 only). Have a nice days.

While it may not be ethical, it can definitely be legal. Many hosts include something in their TOS stating that any chargebacks or disputes are subject to a fee of some sort

When I signed the agreement I was pretty sure that there is no statement that I would agree to any chargeback or dispute fee...so well I go check it again now.....yup, even till now(june 28, 05 PM CST) there is no mention of in their TOS that I have to pay fee if I gonna dispute/chargeback.

Definitely take a look at their TOS for that sort of clause - if there is none, you may wish to threaten to take legal action if they don't refund that fee

Metronome you are an immoral person and you bring here your story like only dishonest people can do!
The trouble you get is not with us but with yourselves and better you bring sincerely everywhere any situation like they really is.
Not yesterday and also not 2 days ago like you are talking about here you did received a cancellation.
I can post everywhere your emails (like only a snake can make it) which you sent to us.
Below the real story for everyone can knows how vulgar a post can be:
You had two hosting accounts with us for ikki-tousen.com and for calligraphyscroll.com.
The renewing for your hosting account for ikki-tousen.com was due June the 26 and you know that very well. This account was suspended by the system on June the 27 for the no payment reason.
Thereafter Paypal paid the invoice and immediately thereafter you did a claim by Paypal for an unauthorized payment! You never cancelled our service or your Paypal promise.
We received this claim from Paypal and need to answer correctly on it. Therefore we got to do an investigation; and it this fees for that unnecessary investigation we invoice you. What’s more you never have contacted us for your suspended account or not for your Paypal payment.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=592955
Therefore the reason from all this; it has a completely sense that you are responsible for our needless fees.
In addition we request you to post here a copy (scan) from “the notice that you should have cancelled the subscription yourself”. This will be very hard since this is the largest falsehood I ever have read.

And XeHSean what you know about ethical if you give respond on dishonest persons which doing a false declaration by Paypal and post here only dishonesty?

I really do not think so. The customer is right until he doesn't break the rules. I am not telling Metronome was breaking the rules, as I really have no similar experience, but if he does he won't remain right.
