Awful Godaddy.com Dedicated is Horrible!!!

This is the 5th month in a row that main my dedicated server, which is with godaddy, has gone down. Luckily is only has 3 of my customers sites, all personal friends, but still, not my sites are down. It is going on 9 hours.

I called them and said I needed help, they said it takes an hour for a power cycle to complete once the reboot is initiate. WHAT BS! Then they say that because I changed my hostname and nameservers in WHM, they cannot access either and have to refer the ticket to the data center. !#@!!+#! ANy time my server is rebooted, it powers down. They said they fixed it, liars.

Now I have given them chances to make amends but this is the last straw, Godaddy is a bunch of morons that do not give a care. I doubt that their data center is really even theirs, you can NEVER reach a person at the data center.

Hi Halycon,

I feel your pain. However, I do have good news for you. I own/operate a development company for the past several years and this site can be very demanding at times. I sell software and have thousands of repeat customers. People are downloading, posting and doing quite a bit on a daily basis and I have been through the dedicated server game going up and down for years..... until I found DedicatedNow.

I've been renting a server from them for the past 4 years straight and it's never gone down unless I reboot or need to kick SVNServe in the arse The trick with them is when you order be sure to pay the extra $30 for their Stage 3 Support which basically turns them into your "support". Not just support, but Managed Support. That's right. You don't have time to be dealing with hosting inquiries.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=592883

1. They always answer phones (even on weekends)
2. They respond ASAP to tickets.
3. They expanded the DC a few years back (Fortress ITX owned I believe)

I have not one thing bad to spit out, all good news. And I assure you that I am no way affililated with them or promote their services. I do however know exactly what you're going through and I wish you to best of luck to resolve your issues in the near future.

For what it's worth, I like GD very much. I have a small domain name portfolio with them but there comes a time where one must realize that a major domain name company should focus on one thing they do best - Domain Registrations not everything under the sun like Hosting. From a business POV, Bob knew exactly how to cash in on his customers. It's not rocket science, it's legal and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

In fact, many of my customers cannot utilize GD servers (shared, VPS, not sure about dedicated..) but thats only because they are very strict with their php and functions available for use within their virual domain name containers. What is more, I don't believe they allow PHP sessions to use custom "user" setting within ini_set() or .htaccess.

Their servers expect all session data to remain within the users tmp folder (as all hosts did like this back in the day). Because ILance holds secured session information in the database, this allows our customers to easily expand their site with new load balanced servers without worrying about sessions being stored on the central server tmp folder (as plain text files).

Sorry got rambling there... no harm

Take care,

Peter

Well the only downtime I have had has been related to my cpanel install. I guess the network and hardware is fine, but cpHulk keep blocking ALL ips, even if I put mine in the whitelist. So then Godaddy takes about 24 to 72 hours to login and flush iptables for me. That is too long, imo. I understand they are busy, but they keep a minimal crew on weekends, not good for a large hosting firm.

With their shared hosting, I never use it anymore because their servers always have CPU hogs and they never listen when I told them that.

Domains from GS, perfect. No complaints.

Bob is a genius, but a pervert imo. LOL

They are busy abut you can't wait anymore I guess. I suppose that would be find another web hosting provider.
In any case I suppose most people still consider them as domain name registrar and I suppose they need more time to get the good level on the web hosting.
So you always have the choice
Good luck

Well their shared hosting is ok. But when you go for dedicated server you need to go for somewhere you get quicker support.

iHubNet-Matt will become famous soon enough

If you feel so uncomfortable the only solution is to switch to another one. I know it is a pain to switch with your data all the time. Do your research before you choose the next one. There are many good dedicated server providers out there with great customer service. Choose your best one from those. Best of luck.

I found Gogax.Com, they have a killer panel that lets you manage the server as if you were physically in front of it. I am going there next month.
