Does Googlepages.com require a Gmail address?

I would like to start a small website, and as paid hosting is only suitable for very big sites IMO (I have paid hosting for my other site, but this one is more a hobby thing and I'd like to host for free) I would like to use Googlepages. A friend of mine has it and showed me how it works, it's very sweet and simple and there is no limit in maximum of pages and (as far as I know) no policy that removes your site if you don't log in for 2 months like for example Freewebs has.

However, the only way to sign up I found so far, asks for a Gmail.com or a Googlemail.com address.

I have a mailbox hosted by Google Apps but it uses an own domainname of course. Can I sign up with this address to start a Googlepages account? Or could I even sign up with my Yahoo address of so, or does it really require a Googlemail.com address?

I can, if no other option exists, open a @googlemail.com account, but to open a new mailbox just to start the free website would be a bit silly when I already have my primary mail account hosted by Google Apps.

I believe that google won't mind if you have another gmail for separate need

i think op might be worried he has already a gmail account but in fact a domain hosted using gmail features, he might be risking his domain to lose that account.

in this case, it's better to know it straight from the horse's mouth

Well take it easy. There are plenty of the free email services. And as OP said Yahoo might be good way for that

I doubt they'd unactivate my Google Apps account that uses my domain.

I do already have a Googlemail account and never had any influence on my domain with Google Apps mailbox. But asking to be on the safe side cannot do harm, even though their helpdesk usually takes several days to reply.

But I was hoping I may could use my email address with my own domain (hosted by Google Apps) because creating an extra mailbox to open the Googlepages site means yet another mailbox to check. Guess if there is no other way though that it is still worth the bit of hassle.

Ive been using my website domain name email address for all of google's services for awhile now and havent gotten any complaints from them. I dont think they care if you use a gmail account or not...they just want you using their services and viewing their ads.
