Free web control panel?
anyone know of any good and free web control panels? Like cpanel but not cpanel since its paid - i only plan to use it for myself since i run a server at home - currently its only for game servers but soon I plan to test out by putting a website or two on there

well its not about "free web hosting" its about a host control panel like cpanel

hmm, web-cp looks like it might have stalled, no new releases since 2005.
this one looks more up to date: http://sourceforge.net/projects/ispconfig/
( there are also 48 developers on the team, as opposed to 1 )

I believe Webmin is a pretty popular free control panel. I know a few hosts that use it. You can get it at http://webmin.com and since it is open source, many people have helped contribute to it over the years as a community to make it a decent quality product

thanks for the recommendations - gave some rep to all that recommended something :-)

i was already looking into webmin and ravencore but i didn't know if they were any good, might try out webmin - will try to install tonight or tomorrow night if possible

I don't think any one can give a control panel as free. May be some free web host will allow such facilities. Even though they allow this it is just for a training . I think free web hosting companies are actually doing web hosting for learning web hosting like that some of them offers free site hosting and cpanel

Webmin is great of your technically inclined with Linux. Its really full featured, but not for the novice Linux user. In other words, I would not call it user friendly for your average Joe.

ISPConfig is decent but not fully featured.

Same with Lxpanel, but in my opinion an extremely ugly interface. Then again, its free so you cannot complain

You get cpnanel free only with shared hosting and price in some wut included in web hosting package. I haven't seen any of good web hosting companies offer it free for dedicated servers or VPS.
