Question Yet another stupid question from a newbie :-)

Hi,

I hope you will reply even if the question is stupid.

I have looked at many hosting providers for hosting my websites (if I ever finish them ).

I have seen that ever hosting provider, has 3 or 4 types of hosting.

Shared - Reseller - VPS - Dedicated

My question is... if I choose Dedicated hosting will I also have the option to do the same as a Reseller hosting would?

Is my question understood?

Thanks for replying

Best regards :-)

Reseller Hosting
Reseller hosting is targeted for those who want to operate as Web hosts themselves. A customer - the reseller - buys a large amount of server space and bandwidth which are then on-sold to Web site owners. Typically, one reseller's account is placed on the same server with other reseller accounts on a shared hosting basis, but there are fewer accounts overall.
The difference is, with a reseller account, you get the freedom to create an unlimited number of full-featured hosting accounts. Each account you create will have it's own Cpanel control panel.

Dedicated Hosting
Under dedicated hosting, a web site owner is allocated exclusive use of an entire server. There are no restrictions, except for those designed to maintain the integrity of the Web host's network (for instance, banning adult content due to the increase risk of hacker attack). This option is more expensive than shared hosting.

Thanks, so if I have understood it correctly,

I can if I choose a Dedicated hosting sell my disk space and bandwidth to website owners, just like if i had chosen a reseller hosting?

noinstalllanchat is an unknown quantity at this point

you can get a dedicated server and then get something a script that lets you use your dedicated server as a website. go to http://www.hotscripts.com and search for "web host" without the quotes and there are heaps of options there.

Yes, But need to remember that a dedicated server will come around $200 per month.
So it all depends upon your requirements and purpose. If you are going to have only few clients, you won't need a dedicated, a reseller plan will just be enough.

I would add that running a reseller account and running a dedicated server are two entirely different tasks. The latter takes greater technical knowledge, so definitely make sure that you know exactly what it is that you are working with.

I suggest first starting out with a basic reseller hosting and as your income and requirements raise, go to higher plans and finally if you really need it, dedicated.

Thanks for you answers,

my situation is that im developing a website like Rapidshare and Megaupload, yep I know there are million others who also does it :-), and an adult website. The hosting providers I have asked, they either say that they only such sites in there dedicated server, or they say okey to rapidshare-like website in there reseller hosting but no to adult websites. Do I have to mention that offcause will all files be legal.

I dont want to make to pay for two different hosting providers, so I thought maybe a dedicated would be best. And maybe I could also use it to sell hosting to others as well?

I must mention that I know zero about dedicated servers, zero about hosting and zero about developing a website. I know :-)

I am very sure that I in a couple of weeks, will disturb you all, with posts like "how do I blablabla?" or "I have a problem, HEEEELP" :-)

Thank you all for your help.

I think you've answered your own question there. Do us all a favor, don't just start a "hosting company" to pick up a few bucks or for a hobby. If you've got a few friends who know the situation and don't mind paying you, fine. However, don't add to the already swelling ranks of those who should not be anywhere near a web hosting company other than to use the services that they purchase from them. You can not only get these people in trouble, but yourself as well.

There's a lot to running a company and it involves a lot more than pretending to be a good host when you don't even know how to properly manage a dedicated server.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=381320

Your requirements are going to make things a little tougher on you because you're going to be operating in two relatively shady areas of online business. My advice would be to stick with those sites and look for a managed VPS. Don't touch an unmanaged server if you have no clue what you're doing. You'll only get burned one way or another in the end.

Thanks for you advise Crazy, I really appriciate it.

Your right, I think I will drop the idea with selling hosting to others, until I know more about, maybe in a couple of years :-)

I think I will concentrate with the websites for now, but it seems I dont have other options then to chose a dedicated, because of the reasons I wrote before.

I need to say that, I would never pretend that I could give a service, I would not be able to.

My philosophy is, when first you have lost peoples trust, you never get it back for real, so I always try to be honest :-)

Thanks.
