Isn't that defined as illegal? Allowing people to download? Also many hosts will not allow sites with .mp3 files

I think he means local bands?

Depends on the traffic, at start maybe 20gigs, and then upgrade your plan ^^

you need to have permission from the band to transfer music, etc. I think 20GB Bandwidth would be fine for just starting out, you can always upgrade.

how many downloads do you except for each file,
get the amount of every file put together and times that by 10,000
eg, 10MB x10,000=100GIGS

Thanks

There are a lot of variables in this situation that you might want to look at. It seems to me as though you're just starting out which means the site won't have too much traffic initially but that could grow quickly given what you are doing. I'd personally recommend starting out with 20 GB+ of transfer allowing room to upgrade to a larger plan. You might even look at a VPS given that you're going to need some space to because even a shorter song is generally a couple MBs. (Provided that you can administrate one or go managed, of course.)

I know that purevolume.com uses over 50gb of bandwidth A DAY. That comes out to... 1.5tb of bandwidth per month. If you're looking to start up a site like that, you NEED backers for bandwidth, otherwise you're looking at a very high scaled and costly bandwidth issue.

Oh, if you're only going to have 10-15 bands, then yeah, I would say around 40-50gb per month.

Probably average 1-2gb per day, depending on how popular your site gets.

If you're looking for a cheap webhost to offer this kind of bandwidth (this offers higher), there's a company called www.ixwebhosting.com that offers a lot of bandwidth for cheap. not sure about their quality at all and I'm sure there are plenty of companies out there that offer a lot of bandwidth for whatever needs you might have.

cheap isnt always better:

example:

host 1: offers 1 gb space and 40 gb BW for 10$/month

host 2: offers 2 gb and 100 gb bw for 10$/month

which one will you choose?

host 2 ofcourse.

what do you get?

Your account gets suspended when it uses 80% of the BW
no real support
server issues
etc...

Actually, specifically with this company, their parent company is a very promising and industry leader, so if I needed a lot of bandwidth, I would be using them. I personally don't need a lot of bandwidth right now, but my current host provides me 150gb of bandwidth and only costs around $16/mo

Actually no, they will not. I have a personal relationship with the company and I can gaurantee you that you will get the 150gb if you purchase that account.
