I have dreamweaver 4 and have tried to use there FTP uploading deal but it come back and says something like: "cannot contact FTP server host." I am using Godaddy as a host. maybe I am setting the settings wrong, I don't know. I followed these instructions here: http://faq.siteground.com/faq/upload...eamweaver.html tell me if thats right or what. Thanks! Ian |

![]() | I know this may sound like a dumb question but did you substitute your own domain name for ftp.yourdomain.com for the FTP host info? I've seen many instances where people take instructions such as these verbatim so just want to check as that would cause such an error. Also, are you sure you domain name is currently resolving properly to your webspace with Godaddy.com? If you just registered the name it's possible the name isn't working yet. Thanks, Anthony

![]() | The possible reason for not connecting properly is: 1) You have not replace the domain.com just like webfeat said 2) Your domain has not resolved yet 3) A mistake in typing your password and username can also be one of the reason 4) You have not configure the ftp setting in macromedia If all of the above is done, then your ftp connection should be ok. |

![]() | ya, your right soemtimes people do take in to far, but no, I did out my domain name for it. My domain is up and running, I did that little "put you site up now" thingy on godaddy just to start, and was planning to put my real one up today. |

![]() | I'm not sure what kind of Tech Support Godaddy.com has but have you called them? They should be able to troubleshoot it for you. The error you're reporting sounds like a connection to the server issue. That's either caused by your Internet connection not working or the FTP login information isn't correct. To make sure it's not your connection, try to ping ftp.yourdomain.com. To do this in Windows, click Start > Run and then type in ping ftp.yourdomain.com and then see what happens. You should see a black box appear with a listing of 3 IP addresses. If the black box goes away quickly you know it's a network issue. Be sure the FTP Hostname is ftp.yourdomain.com and that you've got the correct username/password. Use all lowercase unless your user/pass is case sensitive and requires it. ????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/web-hosting-discussion/101763-first-time-make-site-i-need.html Thanks, Anthony

![]() | When I typed that in it popped up a folder and started searching and then says that it can't find that file. Ian I might have gotten it, I told godaddy to let me host it and they are pending or whatever so I'll let you know if it works. Ian

![]() | Godaddy says that it is finished but when I try to upload it still says: Host Found, Connecting.... and then after about 25 seconds in pops up and says: an FTP error occurred - cannot make connection to Host. My Firewalls are turned off, I don't know if that would have anyting to do with it. I have SBC DSL, 2wire wirless modem. I don't know what to make of it, I emailed godaddy but they have not gotten back with me. Thanks Ian |

![]() | Did you select the "Passive FTP" option in your FTP settings? I would suggest calling Godaddy instead of email. That may be a quicker way to get their attention and walk through your settings to troubleshoot the problem.

![]() | I tried to call godaddy but the # was messed up, but....I emailed them some screenshots and they told me what was wrong. When I signed up for there hosting thing the only domain I had purchased was www.mydomain.com. but the only option for a hosting an account was WW.mydomain.com. I thought that the rest was just our of the screen but a guess not. they told me how to fix it and I think it will work now. sorry if that did not make any sense, its kinda hard to explain. anyway, Thank you guys much for the all your help.
