My site needs help !!!!!!!

This is my first original design my very first layout i made....i know that it is in need of major improvements but not sure where to start....any thoughts please ? comments or critisms ?

its a nice design but the folder graphics could do with "smartining" up at the moment they look pixelated

The images used for the menu are not sharp, the font you used are to small and I would put the banner at the bottom, good luck

yeap i agree, the folders look very pixelated and also , u can change the color of your google advertisement to suit your websites color scheme. otherwise, your site looks great

ive made a scroling thingee....so that wen the content gets too long, a scrolling thingee will appear to scroll and stuff

lol good luck, try using the line tool, and set it on white.. then clean up the edges with the line tool.

Hi there,

Take a look at your code. There is a fatal validation error on the first line line (no doctype) so can't even check the rest.

Missing alt tags all over the place and loads of tables - try a bit of CSS to make things simpler.

To be usable you need to comply with the web standards - make sure you can view the site in all browsers and platforms, do not dictate IE or window size.

The site does work even if the graphics are a bit iffy and the font way too small.

Note sure what all your headings are doing: Updates., type, content etc...

Get rid of the splash page - considered really naff by the experts.

I would also check your copywrite, suspect that you can't use the Simpsons images without express permission.

Still not a bit little site, just need to work on your optimization and accessibility

I think the header is very blurred / distorted and I'm not really sure what your site is about at first glance, what does " Wahta-Dumb " mean anyway?

I think you could definetly do with some colour on there,

It would be helpful if you could reply to the advice given. It you want to build an effective site then there is a lot more you could do.

Think about this, Mozilla browsers, Opera and IE all do things differently. And there is a whole world of difference between a PC and a MAC. For example, Mozilla and IE do not even manage to resolve websafe colours the same way which is why a bright picture in Firefox can look very muddy in IE.

And IE will not display anything until it has worked out what goes where in a table. It follows therefore that the more tables you have the slower it will be before you see anything. OK if you are on ADSL but pants if you are using dial up.

On your site, every page has this whole mess of tables each of which needs to be built by the browser before it can display the page. You really need to reconsider your site layout you are serious about web-design.

Then there is your grammar amd check your spelling. Also get legal advice on your disclaimer:

"By viewing this website you agree not to sue the webmaster or staff member or anyone to do with Wahta-Dumb."

Err, no. If you publish an image of mine in express contravention of my copywrite restrictions then I have an absolute right to sue you. You must get persmission before you display copywrited material.

You have asked for comments and critisism. If it is proffered then take it in the spirit with which it was given, it is not a personal defamation of you, just some thoughts in response to your request.

Just been reading your 'my computer' thread. If as you say you are a newbie at web design then can I suggest that you look a some of the many tutorials and design advice sites on the web. There are literaly thousands, you wuill find common themes in all of them and top of the list will be 'content is king' followed closely by 'navigation'. Get both of these right and visitors will put up with a lot of minor annoyances.

I would seriously suggest that you simplify the site. It is too complex and will need a lot of management to keep it running smoothly. And if you want to keep the 'windows' layout then make it full width so that it fills the browser window.

And although it is a fan site, it could really be a showcase for your talents. Take a look at punchbaby or ebaumsworld to see how they do it. Both are very succesful sites doing the same thing as you.

Additionally take a look here for some design help, might find something useful: usability and design.

I do wish you well, but be patient, good web design takes a long time to learn and even longer to get right.

I'd call it advice, if you post a site for criticism expect a lot of it, comment such as "it doesnt look good" arent help full, but when people tell you why is VERY helpful, agreed?

So in fact fisicx is just trying to help, gave you a couple of points of reference for inspiration and then its up to you.

And as to the posted who couldn't be bothered to read it - the whole point of asking for help is to get some feedback. If it takes a little time to review and the write the post then it is for the benifit of all. A good review of a site can take 2-3 days to complete, the report may be many pages long. But if the advice is heeded then there is a lot of benifit.

I have nothing personal against anybody, it is a review. I had my own work reviewed on another forum and got savaged - but the advice was very good and making the changes increased my page rank and the number of unique visitors has doubled.

Take the advice. Use or don't use it but do not take offence if you do not like what you read. That is the good and bad of an open forum.
