Web Design Site - How Does It Look?

Site for review: MetroSpectre - http://metrospectre.net/

Ok, I got my main page done. It's a web design site. I want to thank those who checked out my Car page and the nice comments for that. I hope I'll get lucky with this one too. But be honest.

First off, I'm just starting this up so I don't have much content. I do hope add more as I can.

I did the whole site myself and also my logo. Input would be appreciated. If there's anything you didn't like or ideas you might have, please let me know and it'd be also nice to have a link to an example so I can learn from it.

I hope to add more banners to my banner rotation as well, and I've signed up for Google AdSense and awaiting the email to confirm. That'll go on the sidebar. That sidebar will be for affiliate programs. Banner at top will be for the banner rotation. I might add a banner at the bottom as there's a link exchange of sorts I'm thinking of going into.

Also on the sidebar or the top (where my greeting card currently sits) I hope to put ads for products I'm hoping to create and sell via Cafe Press.

I hope it doesn't look too cluttered?

I think the overall design looks nice and works well, but for a website about graphics I think it could do with some more personality. I have no idea how you can make it have more personality, but it just looks a bit too general at the moment.

IMHO, the banner looks nice but I think the page-curl spoils it, it weakens the structure of the rest of the site which is clean and uniform.

Hope that helps

Rowan

Thanks, Rowan. I was experimenting with the page curl thing. I fixed that. Take a look and see if it's any better. I guess I SHOULD put the ad banner in another place but I don't know where it would still get attention and not take from the site design. Maybe my holiday greeting should be smaller. Just some things I've also noticed.

Thank you for the review. I think it does look better without the page curl.

Thanks. By "links" I assume you mean the menu at the top? (See below for comments)

Yeah, I wondered about that too.

RE: Menu/Links

I was wondering if the menu was a bit hard to read. I am thinking again of a more simple and readable design. Work and holidays had been keeping me busy plus I was ill over the holiday weekend so I didn't do too much. I also have another site I want to do so I'll be putting more work in to the MetroSpectre site a bit later. But ideas are still welcome. I do agree on the menu being a bit hard to read though.

It's going to be graphics oriented so that is why the graphics. But I'm interested in knowing if it is slow or not on dialup connections (since I use DSL and can't really tell).

Thank you for the input.
