Getting close to launch

Hi guys, would like some feedback on http://www.Plooka.com

Not finished yet, building a lot of the content at the moment, but some pointers would be useful - you can get a bit to close to things.

Anyway a lot of the sections are not yet linked up, but the blog, forum, and some of the webcams are getting there...

Also should I look at changing the color of my adsense to match the site better.

General impressions though please!

Hi!

My first impressions for this website would be there are many graphics, only separated by white. I can tell you like blues and whites!

The only other thing that sticks out to me is possibly a browser error:

Quote:
So when we can't be in resort this is where we are.....talking about it!
The last line is overlapped by the graphic below it. I am using firefox.

Thanks Zion - yes a lot of blues and white, I guess I should build some txt in to the front page but initially got a bit to carried away with pictures!

Pesky Firefox, this is what puts meoff using layers as they display differently in different browsers.

I am tempted to say that I am solely interested in display in IE as this is the majority browser......

Just drives me a bit made when that happens, still haven't figured out layers properly. I just stumble through my design a bit!!!

Depends on the type of crowd that visit the site. For instance about 90% of the sites that i own and run about 60% of visitors use firefox. Be good if you could get it to display correctly in both IE and Firefox.

Looks good on my IE browser at work but i will check it on firefox when i get home

I see the overlapping as well. IE is the most common browser, yes, but by no means is the number of other browsers low either, you could loose a lot of revenue this way.

I personally use Firefox almost exclusively, and most people I know are into Firefox.

Graphics-wise your website looks nice!

Its pretty good. The graphics are well done, and I love how you intergrated Google ads on the right side bar. Over all, it is a simple, yet effective and semi-captivating site.

Great job m8.

Hmm, the site looks the same for me on both IE and Firefox, so I suppose the issue's been fixed now.

There's a couple of things I'd liked to see amended, however:
I believe the colors on the first menu "Home Page, Ski Resorts" etc should be changed. I don't like the way the black looks on the browns, or the white. Perhaps it's the font you used. But anyways, the mouse over color really shouldn't be red. Red and blue don't go together unless you use the right shades...

Although the site's 'okay' it seems a bit too busy, too distracting for my likes.

Hopefully this helped at least a bit.

Good Luck,
Sergio965

Thanks guys, it is encouraging to get comments, and feedback is genuinely taken on board. Haven't changed that issue in firefox with the txt but will do.

personally I am quite proud of the buttons that follow the same background as the mountain so I will definately keep them!

Nice at first glance but you have text issues. THis for example:

"The New Kid on the Block! Plooka is here to talk about everything and anything snowsports related. We love the mountains, the crisp clean air, the sound of fresh show crunching beneath our feet, and getting on the Piste! So when we can't be in resort this is where we are.....talking about it!"

"show" should be snow, "can't be in resort" isn't proper English. And the text overruns the box. The devil is the details.

Thanks for spotting the text issue - must remember to get my girlfriend to go through the site and pick them all out for me

Think I corrected the firefox problem as well so thanks for that....

Still lots to do

thanks dotnom, think I was being a bit lazy leaving the white box. Just blended the ads now to match the feel of the page. Learning a hec of a lot of new stuff of this site, but I am happy with the look of the ads....let me know if you think I could make them look better!

I would get rid of that background/border around the site. Sorry but I really don't like those circle/bubbles on the top right.

As you already stated you are going to change the google adsense, that is still needed.

Overall look and feel of the site is nice. I like it, I like the pictures. Makes me wish I could go skiing right now.

One last details, if you click on the blog I can not cleary find how to get back to the main page. Not really sure if you can at all.

If you like my review add some rep points

I think the whole content block is aligned to the right.. or have you purposely done so?
It would be better if it is aligned to center.

I'm like the color scheme a lot, and I think you've done well with it. However as some have mentioned above, the whitespace separating the pictures from the navigational elements doesn't do anything for the site, and is bad for usability.

You've given the blog and forum the same look as the main site, which I like. Your hard shows.
