| NamePros Regular | monkey off my back Finally got my own webpage up. I have been in advertising design 10+ and finally got on the web. Now I am so inspired by this medium that I want launch a couple of generic portal type sites and hopefully get some revenue through ad sense and affiliate marketing which I have been reading up on. This forum seems very helpful. Any comments on my site & plans greatly appreciated. http://www.fleege.com Thanks. Fleege

| New Member | It's a very clean and easy to look at design.. I just have a few comments: 1. The links to the left kinda confused me when I rolled over them.. I didn't know what I was clicking on until I clicked it cause they all changed to black.. I don't know, it kinda freaked me out. 2. The navigation links are cool, but they should be ONE picture instead of having the images and then the text below as seperate links.. Have them be one and the same. 3. The index page was kinda acting weird, I could scroll to the right, and nothing was there but white space, and this was the same for the bottom, I could scroll really far down until it was all white space.. Why is that? This was in IE6, by the way. Overall, it looks nice, I think it could be condensed a little though, my eyes have to look ALL over the page to look at the different elements, instead of it all flowing together.. Hope this helps!

| Senior Member | I like the idea of your black to color menu but your pictures didn't convert from color to black too well, I don't like that time link thing, it would be cool if you had the time being displaed next to it instead of a link. Everything else is good, nice colors, good clean, site |

| NamePros Regular | Thanks justin. Yeah I havent really figured out what would be a good dimension for a webpage. Any recommendations. I think I learned somewhere that a 1000 pixels is good width especially if you want to use a large background that you dont want to be repeated. (no background on this site though) Thanks for the input. The time/location thing is just is just that I like this website with all the times from different cities.

| New Member | Here's what I do. 1. Open up a new document in Photoshop (or whatever graphic program you use) at 790 x 600. 2. Start designing to fit inside that width. (You can design further down past the 600 height, but I don't go past 790 in width for those 800x600 users) 3. Keep everything in layers so you can move them around your layout until you're happy with it. 4. Once you've got your layout, you can start cropping everything and making your images to put in tables, etc.. Hope this helps

| NamePros Regular | Hmmm. Interesting. Never thought of designing the background in PS. I would love that. My next site will have all kinds columns and masthead area etc. It would definitely make it easier for me. Thanks. My only concern is that some pages will need to be longer (deeper) than others. Would it then be imported as a graphic or as a background. Wouldnt the "image" then repeat awkwardly on the sides and bottom if imported as background? So much to learn...

| New Member | No, no, you don't design the background in PS, you design the whole site; buttons, header, footer, etc. Then you grab those elements and fit them together like a puzzle in HTML.. This is much easier to do with a WYSIWYG program, of course. So if you don't have one, I suggest Macromedia Dreamweaver. It takes practice and patience, but it works GREAT for me.. in fact, I designed this site totally in PS and then cut each beveled corner, line, and header, etc. and placed them together with tables in Dreamweaver. This isn't a design standard, but I find this to be a VERY good way to do it.

| NamePros Regular | nice work on audiosnack. I use GoLive. I just having a bit trouble getting stuff in layers which is why the background stuff would be good as a imported background image.
