new guy, first website

this is my first "real" site I have done. I would like some feedback/constructive criticism from some veterans:

http://www.approachinginfinity.com

Thanks,

Lars

Front page loads linkda slow, so I'm thinking either reduce the file size of the graphic or get rid of the page alltogether. You should have a statement somewhere on your site that this is your personal site for blah, blah, blah... Good first effort, though.

I have a separate page for this in the "about" section. Would this cover it or do you think that this should be on the main page?

Thanks for the tip on the graphic size.

Same here. on multiple T1s and the homepage loaded slowly;

Being two images and probably < 100K, it loaded slower than 100K should - probably slow server?

I do not like this site at all.

1) The splash page is completely unecessary and doesn't really have much on it. If it had a flash intro or something....
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=39854
2) I don't like where the links are, I'd go for a horizontal nav.
3) The overall look of the site is horrible. It looks messy and unorganized.
4) There are loads of different fonts on the site (everyone does that on their first site). Stick to one, or at a maximum (with header fonts) 2.
5) The "designed by larry jackson..." is way to small and too anti-aliased and this makes it difficult to read.
6) On all the other pages, you have what page it is written down the side - why not on the homepage?
7) About them page headers, I'd put them so they read like
t
h
i
s
Instead of having them the other way.
8) You might want to think about writing a PHP mail form for your contact. mailto's just don't cut it anymore!

Well, there's my views. I hope I didn't seem to harsh, but I am kinda looking at it from a designer's point of view.

Really good, for your first site. The splash page was nice; but I do have to say the the smaller version of the logo used on the other pages wasn't all that striking. You need more of a header, I think.
