Site Screaming For Redesign - What Do You Think?

I've had a gadget blog for awhile (gazotto dot com) The design was always crap and quite frankly I think that since the site doesn't look up to par my writing has suffered as I feel people don't take the site seriously.

I've finally got the time to do a redesign.

This is just an image of what it would look like.

I would appreciate any comment you have on the colors, design, etc.

looks good. i'd make the background stripes stand out less by using less contrasting stripe colours (ie, make the darker stripes less dark).

Overall I like the design, good use of colour while still retaining focus on the whitespace where your writing will be.

IMHO, the stripes down the side do not fit at all. I'd get rid of them and then centre the page.
