ListingTheWeb.com

Hello, I was hoping you could review my new website ListingTheWeb.com, which offers a search engine & directory. ListingTheWeb also has Books, Electronics, Music and Movies for sale. This is my first search engine/Directory as I am still fairly new to this. Comments and Suggestions very much appreciated,
Thanks

EDIT: Just added a game section, also a weather & directory link.
feedback appreciated!

Thumbs up Review

Hi,
I like how simple the front page is, just like any search related site should be!
I especially like the Sherlock Smiley as a logo.
I have only two negative views of the site:
The amount of ads really slows its loading time :-(
And, search results are in a difficult to read 'military' line.

Besides that, I like the layout of the site!

Yes, still trying to "tweak" everything. Thank you much for your review.

The site is very simple and clean. Your logo is very creative. I would center the links above the search engine box. Personally, I would try to integrate a section with content for search engine recognition. Overall, the site is basic and serves your purpose very well.

Best of Luck,

Hi there,

Nice clean layout!

About the search, perhaps you could make the active search type bold, similar to Yahoo. Also make the form submit button a fixed width. You may have done this, FireBug (which you should get) is showing a script error when I click on it.

On http://listingtheweb.com/electronics.html, when I change the search type, the submit button drops under the text field. There are a lot of ads during the search. Maybe put the adsense on the right and the banner on the bottom so the results go all the way to the top.

Shopping categories seem a little out of place. Looks like an afterthought rather than an integrated element of your site.

Did you hand-code e.g. http://www.listingtheweb.com/flowers.html or are you using friendly URLs? What I means is, do you have a database and this shows the results, or did you code in all the html on this page?

Check your site validation: http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=ht...gtheweb.com%2F

Try using a table-less layout for design.

You should add some filter controls for searching. I did a random search for "asd" under images and an explicit image was shown.

Aside from what's been said already, here's my short feedback.

It feels that your visually missing some elements. While the frontpage is decent, i'm missing the "framework" around the context.
Once clicked on a listing, the results page is overpowered by the google ads, i'd seriously consider moving/removing them. place the results in boxes, either color code the background, make it look a bit more advanced than it does right now. Look at the latest Vista skins/boxes or Apple and build something from there.

In order to stand out from Google, MSN and Yahoo, you're going to have to step it up a bit.
Other than that, the logo is cool, the idea not bad, just the visuals need improvement.
