New Site a Friend of Mine Made

Hey my friend asked me to critique this for him but I don't really know what to tell him because I think its pretty good. Can I get your opinions on it?

Hi, think the site has an overall pleasant design, nice bright colors, and almost resembles a blog. It looks fairly professional and will go a long way to attract visitors to read on. Some other suggestions:
- No idea what your left bars (battles, voting) do. Not immediately clear.
- might want to add a little more marketing on the main page, details on what visitors will get, some examples, pictures, will also help.

- top bar menu is too cluttered, might want to consider reducing number of links there.
- the article in the main page (fading background shadows) has a picture that is not loading. Does not portray well on the site esp when it is on the main page and pictures are not loading. Some may dismiss this site immediately just by this point.

I like the design, it suits a graphics-related site. However a few more images would be the icing on the cake for me

As jl255 pointed out, it's a little unclear what the battle and voting sections are about.
As the name is "Graphic Battle" I assume users upload images and compete against each other to determine who's is the best? If so, that's a very good idea and I'd like to check back very soon to see the sites progress

Okay I told him everything you guys said. I think he fixed the broken image, removed some of the links to make it less crowded. He also said that he is starting a few battles so that won't be confusing and to join if you like it...
