Question Please review SpeakUp.cc

I'd really love to hear some feedback about SpeakUp.cc. Its a general discussion forum for every imaginable topic.
It just started recently and therefore isnt extremely large yet but I'd nevertheless like to know opinions about things like general layout/impression, topics, arrangement of the forums, the general idea and like that.

Thanks everybody.

Off to an interesting start, you're having the same problem that i have with my forum, we're both running with the generic setup. I suppose it goes for the both of us to add additional content onto the frontpage. In your case, that may be a bit more difficult since you're not targeting any one topic, but you're all over the place.

You may want to build some sub categories to give it a bit more momentum, such as: Life Style, Celebs, etc.

Definitely needs a logo and some custom work. Currently, it's a forum, there's obviously, so i've been told in the review of my site, a lot more to it than just running with the basic abilities.

So far: 0.5 out of 3 possible

Thanks gjsys. I know that starting a forum in these times isnt very easy but I wanted to give it a try. Beside that we both just started a forum we also trust the same platform.

You are right SpeakUp does not target a particular topic but wants to be a place for general discussions and chit-chat. Basically something like NamePros' Break Room on a large scale. It also shall be a place for liberal discussions where postings do not get edited or deleted just because someone considers it as political incorrect or for whatever other reason.

But what do you mean by generic setup? That it only runs the default board? Yes it does, but as it doesnt aim for a specific content (with tutorials for example) it basically only comes down to a forum. What other content would you see in context with SpeakUp?

I plan to add more categories with more threads. I want to avoid 30 empty categories.

I am definitely looking for a logo but for the beginning want to see how well it starts off.

Further reviews highly appreciated.

Generic setup as in SMF being one vertical pile, there must be an option to re-arrange the SMF layout to look different. Much like vBulletin, it seems that one can take certain "items" like users online/new users, etc. and move them from the bottom to the right hand side top, see NP for example.
I'm not sure if i'm missing the point with SMF, but i cannot seem to find this type of functionality.
If you should figure it out, you should move items and "own" the screen, try to get your project to look like no other.
that's what i meant by leaving the generic setup.

I think you are talking about a custom theme, right?

custom theme (backdrop, logo, coloring) and
custom arrangement of the forum. certain sections being displayed on a different spot of the screen rather than going with the default layout.

Thanks gjsys. The logo is definitely something I plan, as far as for the theme, I admit it isnt a custom design but its neither the default board theme.
