Would appreciate a site review

I'm the owner of Online Rock

Please could people give me feedback on the site and tell me what they think.

If you can think of any possible improvements that could be made, they would be appreciated.

Detailed Analysis

The concept of your website is certainly something I have not come across before. It's a great idea and after you get the site going, it will be easy to expand and see the traffic come in.

The website design does need improvement. I feel that it is a bit too plain and would turn the visitor away as it seems incomplete. The colour scheme of the website seems to be black, green and red - which don't go all well together. I suggest a more modern/sleek layout and this would keep the visitor here for longer. I'm sure you have had this for consideration.

Having the navigation on the left hand side seems a bit difficult to navigate. You might see a lot of sites with these types of menus on the top, and the reason for this is because it is easier to see and click on. Try enlarging the font as well. If you wanted to be really snazzy, you could have a drop-down menu of the top artists of each letter when you place the mouse over the letter.

Instead of having '404: The page you requested could not be found...' for incomplete pages, consider listing some top bands for each of the letters and add something like 'Songs coming soon!'

As for features, adding 'New Releases' or 'Top Songs' to the menu is also another idea. Your homepage certainly needs more content. Having an RSS feed from another music news site would be a good idea. Items such as images would also sprice up the page. Your Adsense ads should correspond with the colour scheme of your website.

Lastly, a 'FAQ/About Us' and 'Contact Us' page would be useful for visitors wanting to know more about your site, or wanting to suggest songs.

Good luck with the great idea!

Review by Anthony Lieu. Your site was accessed on an ADSL T1 connection, on Mozilla Firefox with a screen resolution of 1280x1024. Thank you for allowing me to review your website design - I hope it was useful.

Aesthetic is on a distinguished road

I like the idea of the site, the design is stylish, but I find the colours somehow sombre, I understand it's rock site, no rose colors, but at least you can add some contrasting tones.
I like the fact it looks "empty", for this sort of site you don't have to stuff it with info.
Pages E, F, G, I, U-Z, K, P, O weren't found. The download was rather slow.
The overall impression is very nice. Though, I'm not a rock fan.

Thanks a load guys!

Anthony; I've left you some positive rep for that fantastic review.

I'm aiming to add content soon.
Thus, the emptiness and 404 errors should go away.
I'll also work on making the adsense ads work better, however I'm getting a reasonable CTR at the moment, so I'll see what works best

Nice idea with the "New Releases and New Features" too.

I like the idea regarding the nav, but how would i fit all the letters of the alphabet as a top nav?

Thanks for the top review

Thanks Tom, glad you liked it.

I'm sure you'll be able to fit the alphabet in the top navigation quite easily. You could create buttons, all have text links like 'A :: B :: C :: D'

If you have buttons, you can neatly join certain letters together to save space such as [A] [B] ... [XYZ]

Good luck!

Something along the lines of how you get on a phone?

That would work I'm sure

Cheers for the advice.

I'll get to work on sorting that out when I get time.

Grouping letters would also fill up the site quicker, which is good!
