Opinions on design of site

i'm not used to designing websites.

what do you think of this effort LINK

the logo is just a temporary thing, but the final one will be onlong the same lines

how does the site look?

those links are bad, you have no contrast in colours, they need to be dark, alot darker.

you also need some kind of header on your search box.

adam: I've darken the colours of the links as you suggested

Mindzero: Yes, i cant figure out why the about page is getting an error. I might remove the link to it completely. there are a few other little problems like that here and there. i will start looking into the advertising side of things when i can sort those errors out

Nice i like it! good contrast in colours and its simple and nice looks alot better then some directorys i've seen definatley 8/10 good luck with it

Trying my hardest to stick to the design as opposed to the content...

I like it, the colours arent used too often on other websites (my GOD arent we all bored on the blue/white schemes out there?)

My mind is telling me I shouldnt like your 80's style wallpaper background but for some reason I do, somehow it works.

Overall a nice, clean and somewhat original design.

The light grey navigation bar with the white background is questionable... just because the grey is arguably too light for the white text.

I was trying to get away from the usual look you see nowadays on websites, that's partly why i went with the 80's style wallpaper, it's a bit retro, but i does kinda grow on you.

im thinking of changing the the whitee text on the navbar to dark grey or black, like you say it's abit too light
