[REVIEW] Sports News site

I built a website very similar to digg.com, except it is all sports related. Users submit sports articles, or stories from their sports blogs, and then they will vote for stories to determine what shows on the front page.

I picked the name MVP, because in sports people vote for most valuable players, and MVP is synonymous with the Best. In my case people will vote on the mvp of sports news.

Like I said, only 1 day old and I have some work to do with the template and design. The header needs some work too.

great idea - bookmarked,

as for the site, its a nice try, the layout is decent enough but the graphics dont really do it for me.

The "vote for news" etc those buttons look big and bulky, perhaps try styling them somehow maybe changing the shape or adding a gradient or both, try experimenting

Perhaps try changing the font on the butons too and a banner or some personalised logo or font rather then the (times new roman?) title would go down nicely,

just my opinion, but keep it up and i hope it succeeds

Hey JaxForum, first of all I think you've hit a clever niche here, i've never seen a sports specific news feed combined with a digg type feature before, it's great.

I think the graphics and general layout are both fantastic and look really proffessional, but somehow this doesn't carry with a sports theme. You might want to get a pro to design a header that combines all the different sports you cover into one graphic.

Have you considered making use of the status bar for when the user hovers over the vote button? With this type of site, that kind of functionality and aesthetics will help you a lot.

I'd also give a bit more prominence to the search box. I mean the first thing you're going to want to do is search for a particular subject, make it more easy to see.

I think your site has a lot of potential if you promote it right and get it booming as quickly as possible, good luck with it.

Thanks for the kind words, both of you...

I really would like to have a professional header logo with a football guy or baseball guy. Unfortunately, money is a problem for me. I am no designer... The title now is written in Old English font, but I guess if you don't have that font installed on your PC, you will see times new roman.

I will take your thoughts about the search and vote features.

If anyone has any opinions on how to better promote this site, I am all ears. I am currently hitting sports blogs and asking bloggers to post their articles on my site.

The design is different but the banner has to change. The text is very hard to read. Also, I would recommend making the buttons and such smaller. Feels like I am using 800x600...welcome back to '95!

I like the simple design and the explanation of what the site is about at the top right. You could maybe put a couple of sports related graphic on the header to catch people's eyes. One other suggestion is to add some sort of submission guidelines or faq.
