Critisizing Help Please

I am working on a site for my mom's book. The book is about cancer and how God can help you through it by praying and believing. I am trying to work on a professional layout that is different from the rest. So far, I really like the banner and the layout. I am baffled as to where I can get the links to go. I have them on the banner now, but I don't like them there. I also tried to make it underneath the banner, which looked okay, but I couldn't figure out a color/gradient for it. My initial goal is to make it look different from my past sites like www.bryannorthey.com. I want it to have it's own vibe and feel. Also the white space seems very white. Well my main concern right now is where to put the links and what color.

Here is the site: www.prayingforhope.com

Thanks for the help,

"an awesome line" is a bit hard to read/doesnt look good, and the links should stand out more, maybe below the header?

The header looks nice i like it. However you could make the links in the header a little bit more readable.
