The iPod Store

The iPod Store

Adapted from a Dreamweaver template. I'm using pictures instead of text for the navbar links to maintain the standard look (Myriad typeface), but I'd be willing to change to, say Times New Roman or some other popular font to help my other domains.

Any suggestions would be welcome. I'm always looking for ways to increase my sales and look more professional.

I don't like it, sorry. 4/10 on my scale. It's simple and does what it should, but still :/

Majinbu: The mini is deliberately lowercase. Apple uses it that way, so I do too.

VIP-IP: What would you suggest I do to spruce up the site?

Get a custom layout for around $50, even I could help you with it, it'll look much more professional, like a reputable iPod store that was online for a long time.

I dont see anything wrong with the site but you could change the font from Times New Roman to something else. But other then that its good.

Hey

Nice images and colours. I find the box on the left does not look like macintosh... if that is the look you are looking for. Macs have a textrued and rounded theme so perhaps you could make the box either a little rounded or a 1px #ccc border with a light grey background perhaps with brush texture.

I am not sure about having the navigation on the left. Maybe you could have the nav on the top. Do you need the image of the url saying "theipodstore.com".

Try having things categoried, the user has to do a lot of scrolling to find out the different types of ipod.

It would help to add a doctype and also make your code valid (like Macintosh ). It is not valid at the moment... http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=ht...odstore.com%2F

Remember to use textures and lighten the tone of the site. Is the text "Popular searches for this page include: iPod photo, new iPod photo, 60GB iPod, photo iPod, iPod Flash, iPod Flash rumor, iPod Shuffle, iPod sale, iPod on sale, bose iPod, Bose i-pod, Bose SoundDock, Bose Sound Dock, MA079LL/A, MA127LL/A." to help your search rankings? There are other ways of getting a good search rank... look at wordsinarow.com.

You may want to spam protect your email address from harvesters.

sorry im not to keen on it either
i think perhaps you should have a border around each item so it looks a bit neater and also change the font from times new roman also perhaps make your logis a bit smaller (thinner perhaps 100px) that way more of the items your selling will be on the screan at 1st glance

i also think "Other iPods: iPod Photo | iPod Shuffle | iPod mini |
Motorola ROKR (iTunes Phone)" and perhaps the google ads at the top should be removed again to move your items further up the page, although i understand you get some click throughs and revenue from them ads but at the same time its driving people away from your store, and also perhaps a bit of colour, although that may not be needed if you just made it look a bit neater perhaps with some of the suggestions above,

sorry i know theres a lot there which may be demoralising but its only my opinion

Tony:

I actually don't mind if people click on the google ads, it works out that I get about the same profit (in aggregate) from ad clickers as I do from buyers.

The other iPods are all links to my other iPod sites (i.e. in my network). I want to steer people to the iPod they want first, because I get a higher referral rate for direct clicks (i.e. clicks on an iPod, buys that exact iPod) than indirect clicks (i.e., clicks on an iPod mini, buys an iPod or iPod Shuffle).

I have a huge screen (1920x1200), so I don't have a good idea of what people on small screens can see. Ideally, I'd like most people to be able to see the first row of iPods themselves at the very least (pictures, hopefully text also). According to my logs, ~50% have 1024x768, ~14% have 1280x1024, and ~10% have 800x600.

I'm not really sure what border to put around the items. They are in standard Dreamweaver tables, but I don't want to just throw up a thin, square border onto them. If they had a way to make a fairly nice looking border, I'd feel more comfortable doing that.

Music Man:
Regarding the popular searches box at the bottom, yes, it's to help with Yahoo rankings. It seems to have done fairly well so far. I will have a look at the site you suggested, though.

I've tried to categorize with the top links, I may just take out everything except the top 3 (new) iPods for the main page and move everything else to a subpage. The only thing that's really keeping me from doing this now is the fact that my best selling product (the Bose SoundDock) is sold on this page, and I'd have to change ads on AdWords to the Accessories site if/when I can put it up.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=112986

I'd love to make it look like Apple, but I haven't gotten around to rounding the borders.

I wouldn't have a problem putting the navigation at the top (in effect, it's already there with the top links to the other iPod stores). Did you mean above the title or below the title?

Could you be a bit more specific on using textures to lighten up the site? Do you mean change the color on the sidebar to something other than gray? I'm not exactly sure what you mean by that comment.

I'm not really an expert on the hard coding part of HTML (I do the WYSIWYG Dreamweaver stuff mostly). If I knew what exactly to change, it would be easier for me to heed the doctype suggestion. As it is, I have no idea what you're talking about.

Others: You guys seem not to like Times New Roman. Should I replace with something like Arial/Helvetica? Veranda?

no structure - times font - design that belongs back in '99. you have product - show it and display it to its best. being impartial, if you hope to take on the big sellers of this product, you've going to have to offer some eye candy. the product is in no doubt - your site, however, is dubious to say the least. i, personally, wouldn't part with a penny. it's the equivalent of walking into a shanty town in India, hoping and praying that the Hilfiger T you're about to buy is genuine. I don't doubt you got real product - but your site def don't say it

Hey,

Text in the menu is a little too big i would reduce the size. Also, I would consider changing the header .. doesnt look so good. Some styles could be added in the text. There is much to be done to this web site to get a nice look.
