web design advice

Our company provides IT services to many businesses in South Georgia (break-fix, network installation & management, telephone systems, etc). We would like to start offering website design and hosting for our existing customer base. In the 90's I ran a small web design firm and kept up on web design technology. A lot has changed since I left this part of the field and I don't have time to learn all the ins and outs nor do the design work myself. We are looking to either outsource the work or hire a full-time developer.

We don't want mickey-mouse looking websites (FrontPage templates, etc). We need someone who can provide PROFESSIONAL results and REAL functionality as needed. The general qualifications would be someone who can impliment SQL interraction, e-commerce, ASP.NET, Cold Fusion, Flash, etc. AND has the creativity and ability to create visually stimulating websites.

The question is, are these qualities even possible to find in a single web designer? Does being an expert designer require so much of a person's time that there is no way they could also be an expert developer to handle the SQL (or other) functionality? I'm just trying to get my bearings and maybe get a lead on someone (or some company) who can fit the bill.

Thanks in advance,

I can only give you my current experience and that is that after I have got my head around SEO/JScript/ActionScript/HTML and all the other madness I have to put up with on a daily basis...AND clients....I really don't have the time as a designer for getting involved with back end stuff at all, its all farmed out to trusted colleagues.

Hi, You would be hard pressed to find many people with the exact qualities you are after so may want to expand your technology list.

I for instance have a fairly high degree of knowledge of the following skills, ASP, PHP, Javascript, SQL, HTML, CSS and Graphic Design and some flash experience so have a good range of skills to fully develop most types of site but not your exact skills set.

If your interested in me anyway, check out my company site WIREDEYES in my sig.
