I Need Help With Most Of Web Design! Help! Please

Hello,

Recently have been working with the text editor: Frontpage and my sites look like crap since I am a "noob" at this LOL. I was wondering what the more saavy web designers use as a base program for their sites?

Also, What is MySQL and could someone give me some good background on websites and how they are hosted etc.

And is HTML Crucial to the beginning of websites, or can you possibly just use HTML Editors all along?

And is Flash the hardest to learn? And what is PHP and how does it go into websites.

As you can see I'm new to this so let me know everything you got! Thanks everyone!!!!!

whoa too much!

You should get a book or two.
>Recently have been working with the text editor: Frontpage

not surprised, FP sucks, most professionals use Dreamweaver or hand code.

MySQL is a free SQL database, there ar others this is industrial strength. It has no real "front end" and you use tools to configure it. again there is a lot to read about it.

>And is HTML Crucial

All web sites are HTML at the base, Javascript is used to automate and extend the capabilities of the web experience. You can use a text editor and do beautiful things but much of the modern interactive stuff is done via Java or Flash.

>is Flash the hardest to learn?

Flash is a program unto itself that creates interactive content that can be delivered ona disk as well as the web. Its like making movies and the like and it is not something you just open and use, not to scare you away but be aware that it has a learning curve.

>And what is PHP and how does it go into websites.

PHP is a language that enables the capture and delivery of data to and from a data surce such as MySQL or many others. It has a learning curve too but is not terrible. It can be used to get info from forms and drives things like this bulletin board.

You should get Dreamweaver and books and read read read and try things as you go. Pick some site effects you want to achieve and try to do them. It will go slowly at first but if you are a good learner you should start to understand how these things work as you use them.
Good Luck and have fun!

Yup... keep reading and trying things out. I'd download the Dreamweaver MX trial from Macromedia to get a feel for the software -- better than FrontPage or Notepad. But the best way to start learning is to put some time into "looking up" how to accomplish what you want. Google is better than the library, and forums like this one are great places to get answers to specific questions. If someone knows the answer, they'll tell you... or at least point you where to look.

PHP/mySQL is a pretty cool combo... you can create (or find for free and copy) lots of cool features using these tools... and in my experience, these technologies let you do things cheapest.

Flash is cool, and complicated... but Macromedia provides some great tutorials with the trial download that can give you a feel for how it works. Takes a lot of time to get comfortable... and I find I need to keep using it regularly or I need to look up how to do everything again.

Keep pluggin along, and be happy with small victories. Each little thing you figure out how to do can be used again, so good luck.
