HTML / CSS issues...resize issues, placement, calender

i'm developing my first site. my progress as of now can be seen at:
http://www.formerfatboys.com/temp/ffbs.htm

So far things are coming nicely I think. However, I'm having some issues. When I resize a window and the menu changes and doesn't read across like:
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/web-design-discussion/86622-html-css-issues-resize-issues-placement.html

contacts guestbook photos etc

it reads like
contacts
guestbook
photos
etc.

along those lines the menu aligns to the left hand side, but I wanted the text of the menu to align to the right. on smaller monitors it doesn't matter much, but on a larger one i'd like it to align left. so:

news links guestbook contact
not:
news links guestbooks contact

lastly, i'm looking to list upcoming show locations and events in the space on the left below the main menu. I want it to look like the tour box on http://www.weezer.com/default.asp. I may include a few other links on the left, but I want to keep things simple. I just don't know how to do it so that it will be easily updateable. A php calender script?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Rowan W will become famous soon enough

Code:
#main_menu {
        width:760px;
	background-image: url(menu_bar.png);
	background-repeat: repeat-x;
	height: 29px;
	padding-top:7px;
}
That should do it.

thanks you! that worked like a charm.

Anybody know how to move the menu so that it justifies to the right side rather than the left or a way to create event lists like the one at weezer.com?
