![]() | couple of questions and some info about me just to provide quick info before the questions, i did a web design program last year at a private college which i completed in december, with diploma and all. now i am looking for an entry-level web design position somewhere or/and some contract work or/and whatever... at least enough to get myself off welfare. had some people considering me to a website for and so on, and they ask me how much i would charge. when they ask that, i couldn't answer as i am not sure how i should charge, as i have yet familiarize myself with the pricing/pay stuff yet, while considering that i am 'entry level' at the moment, don't think i should charge more than some other web designers/developers out there... is there some information somewhere i that could some idea with this? ????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/web-design-discussion/74224-couple-questions-some-info-about-me.html second question, which is basicly connected to the first question, is how much it would cost to the client to have an medium size let say information and resources website built, and then how much to maintain the website. just seeking estimations for someone who asked me for report they are doing for their workplace. thank you for any help any of you can provide... -mellian ...possibly designate whether it is US or CAN dollars too... |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Hello and welcome to NamePros First off, you did mention you are new into the web design business so for you first couple jobs they should be done probably pretty cheaply for you to build up your portfolio. Once you get a few more jobs under your belt you can then start charging more. Since you said its just a informational and resource site, they are usually not all that complex i would say ~$50 USD, that is if its a local project if its a contact from the web it would probably be much cheaper than that. Regards Brian |

![]() | I usually charge about AU$50 for the number of hours I expect the project to take. I also make sure I don't allow the client to continuously ask for more changes. ie, AU$50 x 6 hours = AU$300 I'm a semi-entry designer too. |

![]() | I am in the US and I bought a magazine from the UK in a book store the other day called Practical Web Design. I am an entry level designer myself and they have some good articles on starting a web design business. They recommend charging by how many days it will take you to complete the job. From what I read they recommend charging around 100 pounds (don't know the abbrev. for british pounds) per day for entry level. They said that was really a bargain and that when you get going you should charge around 140 to 180 pounds per day. Convert those last numbers to USD and you get $260-$340 per day. Is that accurate? Too much? Too little? |

![]() | For entry level that might be too much, but then again, you haven't posted any work so nobody knows your talent level. Basically, complex websites need a good design on the front end as well as good coding/programming on the back end to work well. There are some premade software like WordPress or PHPNuke that make it easy for people to install a backend system, but then they will need designers to create a pleasant front end for their website. You need to find these people OR you can learn to use PHPNuke or other software packages and offer the whole front end and back end package yourself. |
