Multicolour logo

Hey, reaching out for a bit of advice if you'd be so kind. I've been designing websites for a few years now but mostly dabble on the programming side. I've just been asked to design a website from scratch - they want me to think up colour schemes, layout etc so I haven't really got much to go on - except they've sent me a logo...which is red, grey, blue and green!

It's for an energy/solar electricity website but what's the best way to design a website based on a multicolour logo? Should I stick to just one of the colours or make a jazzy multicolour mess?

Hello Miseria,

I have designed websites that has multicolored logos before, and I just used the colors that will make the design more alive.

On the logo, what is the only color that stands out more? what is the color that is closely related to energy/solar electricity?

If I were in your place I would:
- Make the navigation bar green.
- Have a shade of blue on the background ( sky blue fading to white gradient is a nice pick! )
- Make the buttons red
- Make the titles dark grey and the content text grey.

Now it's totally in your hand to make it awesome.

I would stick on something more professional.

Red, grey, blue and green!

Choose 2 colors. I would go with grey and blue. Or grey and green.

If he wants a light website, I will make a darker grey background, and the content light grey or white. And like Janine says, give some color through the menu. Make it blue or green, and maybe make the hover of the menu red. Or something like that. Play with the colors only there.

The rest of it keep it professional. 2-3 colors maximum.

If he wants a dark website. Well, black background, or really dark grey. Text white, navigation blue or green. I am not a fan of dark website though.

This is the advice I was looking for. Thank you very much

The logo also looks like it was designed in MS Paint so this will be a tough challenge indeed but will certainly consider your points on green navigation and blue sky background. Thanks

I will play around with the colours in the menu and see what works well. I think I will have to go with the light theme as its an eco-friendly energy theme site. Thanks for the pointers guys

xD you could also suggest to have their logo redesigned. There's no use of designing an awesome layout if the logo isn't as good as the layout.

Blue background menu, with Green hover will look awesome if you know how to make it.

I've made a similar menu design here : www.domainwasteland.com

You can see how I played with blue, green and gray.

Cool, yeah I'm liking those colours. I was also thinking of doing the blue sky (gradient) background as Janine suggested so maybe I'll do green as the default menu colour with blue hoverstate.
And yeah it is tempting to redesign the logo

I may have to consider that if I can't get the design right. Thanks again guys
