How can I transform my site?

http://whatsonrichmond.blogspot.com

I'm a student from London Ontario and this blog was created for a class but has exploded in popularity on campus. The term is over but I'm still keeping the blog to hopefully make it bigger and keep it as a hobby.

I really want to turn it into something like this: http://www.theoldstate.com/blog/
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/web-design-discussion/578934-how-can-i-transform-my-site.html

How do I go about creating my own version of that above, while keeping the same domain URL?

I have advanced knowledge of Photoshop and Dreamweaver .. but that's about all.

What do you think? Where can I go with this site in general? Right now it feels so bland and boring, with the default layout and all.

the easiest way would be
changing the themes of your blog.
The site is too dark make it more brighter.
And organize well the contents of the blog.
