Adding a picture to template.....

If I wanted to edit this free template, and take out the jpg image and add my own image, would there be a reason my image wouldnt show up? My header is larger than the one they use, mine is 1025x183 but it still stretches everythingn out, however I add it and it will not show, except for the box where it should be. Here is the coding for the template. Many thanks

What I did was delete the part in red and added my image....and the square shows where the image would be, as well as when you roll over where the links are in the picture..........but no picture even though it is in the folder where everything is.............odd! I also tried just adding a simple picture

<img src="images/pic1.jpg"> and the square came up, but not the picture! What gives??
