You wont be able to make graphics in 3D Studio Max, since its a 3d modelling program.

Photoshop all the way. I am going to learn 3DS when I want to go into 3d animation with flash.

Photoshop does have limited 3D capabilities with the 3D Transform, but it is nowhere near the modelling capabilities of 3DS.

Basically, it all depends on what you want to do. If you want to go out there and make characters, vehicles and other models - then buy 3DS. If you want a program designed for creating amazing web graphics which has fantastic effects and can be used to create anything - then go and buy Photoshop. Your choice

well i do know more of 3DS more than PS, and i supose its only gfx for web design no game modeling, altho 3ds can produce some good stuff if you know how to use it. Really i need to way up some pros and cons for each package and check see which tutorials that would help the best. See how the pol gose till the end of the week.

You can't compare the 2, its like asking whats better.. ipods or mini copers?

If you just looking to make some tight graphics go for photoshop.

Unbelievably a designer friend of mine a few years ago used max for most of his graphic work although it's not the normal way of doing things. It really is like comparing two totally different things. I would suggest getting your hands on Photoshop first and once you have that down to a good level then take on a 3D program.

Photoshop as a start, but then also learn 3ds-max. That way you can create really cool designs.

Photoshop. The best graphic program out there. But, if you wanna make great 3D stuff ... do 3DM.

http://www.good-tutorials.com

that site is a great Photoshop resource/tutorial website. And is popular ... about 3DM ... I dunno ...

a couple of years ago i used to be a regular at www.3dbuzz.com that offered many free video tutorials on creating 3D with the most popular apps like 3dsmax & maya plus ones like houdini and special effects software. I was one of the original members and they used to send the videos out on CD all over the world for free. These days i think you can download the videos after you post a certain amount on the forum or become a sponsor member. I've been meaning to go back there again but I'm too busy with other projects at the moment. It's worth a look if your interested in learning 3D or special effects and they had video tutorials for photoshop as well.

I say learn both. As already mentioned they are used for completely different aspects of graphics. Photoshop is a good beginning step because you can use photoshop to edit the images you make in 3ds max.

Yeah, get basic PS skills down, then move on the 3D and combine the two later on.
