Whats the best HTML editor to use for beginner?

Tried NVU and then KompoZer, not getting on with them too well.

Can anyone recommend a simple HTML editor that will work well with a person of little or no experience?

Many thanks.

Mark

yeah whats recommended for people that want to learn is to not use a program that lets you cheat at designing like dreamweaver. you want to learn you should start with notepad or even better start with notepad2 (easier to read code with notepad2)

Many thanks guys for the suggestions and help. Found one earlier today though which seems so far to be fitting the bill just perfectly. Already made some good progress.

Again, a great many thanks for your assistance, time and consideration.

Best regards.

Many thanks for the further recommendations, much appreciated.

Just received these instructions from Trellian WYSIWYG:

Now follows some trial and error as I try to decipher what the dickens this reply means!

Question posed was, how do I get Google Adsense to appear down the left hand column of my web page - why you coders never speak in english is anyones sense! Ooh hec, what do I press now, hmmmmmm that doesn't look right, undo, hmmmmmm how about this, oh shi'p', that ain't right, hmmmmm errrrr back to the drawing board, hmmmmmmmmm how about this, blast it and botherations, that's not right either, undo again, hmmmmmm what does this button do? Now it's upside down lol.

One day I'll fathom this all out, sooner rather than later, give me psychology any day of the week!!

Here is the instructions received, code sent:

*****

CSS and tables are two common methods people use to format their websites. Frames is another but it is not recommend.

Using Tables.
Set the outlines of tables to show when zero value is entered.
Click on Edit, Preferences, General and tick the box "Show outlines for tables with zero value border". Click on OK to exit.

To create a table, click on Table, select the dimensions required, Border set to 0 and OK. Now format the table to the layout you are after by merging and/or formatting the cells.

Using CSS.
Peruse the following tutorial on how to format a layout in CSS, you will need to manually code it however. http://www.subcide.com/tutorials/csslayout/

Regarding the Google Search Box.
Paste the following code in the section you want in the source view and change any references to website.com to your website.

<form method="get" action="http://www.google.com/search">
<input type="text" name="q" size="31"
maxlength="255" value="" />
<input type="submit" value="Google Search" />
<input type="radio" name="sitesearch" value="" />
The Web
<input type="radio" name="sitesearch"
value="website.com" checked />website.com<br/>
</form>

*****

If any of you guys could help me, would be very much appreciated.

Any users of Trellian here?

Best regards.

Mark

As a beginner who knew little to no HTML, I found that using a WYSIWYG editor like Dreamweaver and then looking at the code to see what did what was very helpful.

I'd also recommend grabbing a couple beginner books, and reading them while you play with stuff. It'll keep you up to date with what you're learning, give you things you can try in the WYSIWYG editor and then on your own, and it'll keep you from making some common beginner mistakes (like listening to everything that Dreamweaver does, cause occasionally it can throw some pretty ridiculous code )

Hope that helps some.

Yeah, I've been using html kit too as a newbie. You can't beat an editor for
free and easy software. I heard dreamweaver is the king for editing software.

For editing HTML, I use ConTEXT for Windows (http://www.context.cx) and Geany for Linux (http://geany.uvena.de).

In my opinion, the best would be MS Frontpage. Dreamweaver is also pretty good, even if it looks complicated. Both can be used for coding or as WYSIWYG editors.

I would recommend using the CodeTech extension for Firefox. It supports WYSIWYG and is easy to use.

Adobe Dreamweaver Rocks, Ultra-edit is also great!!! Notepad is plain and simple text editor. It depends what type of site you are looking to build. An ASP.NET page can be built in Notepad, however, Dreamweaver has intellisense built in as well as being able to see what it looks like while you are desiging it.

Good Luck
