Question What's the use of PSD files in web designing?

Some templates offer both HTML and PSD files. What are PSD files for anyway? I mean, at the end of the day, everything still has to be written on DreamWeaver, or am I mistaken? I have never learnt web designing and cannot imagine what PSD files may be useful for...? Thanks for any tips/clarification.

PSD files are essential for editing the graphics on a site. It is the original file from photoshop, usualy containing many layers.

You want to change the picture in the header? You'll need the photoshop PSD file. There's not much you can do to modify many layouts if you don't have it.

Oh, I think I kinda get it. So I just have to get to DreamWeaver and create a skeleton table corresponding to the PSD template. Then in the respective squares I add the PSD images. So the PSD file actually allows for convenient altering of images on a site. Right, or left?

Ummm, hey but the HTML files come with the same images too, so why cannot I just stick with those? Does PSD make it more customisable?

Sorry for these seemingly silly questions and thanks for the tip!

a .PSD file is easier to edit, cuz it has many layers

the images you get with a html file are not layered, hard to edit it
for instance,
if you want to change a button
in a HTML given picture you prolly have a .jpg or .gif
so you have to make a new button just to change the text

if you have a .psd file you can just retype the text and ur done!

scisoft is an unknown quantity at this point

Also, the graphic in html is already adapted for the web. It is good if you do not need to change its size. If you need to resize, it is better do it in the original psd format and than save for the web.
